Must. Bounce. Back. And to the shock of utterly no-one... MLS Transfers @MLSTransfers 21m Henry has officially left NY and is in London. Will not be available for #RBNY v #NERevs match up this weekend.
That's fine with me, if he's soooooo chicken to play on the plastic grass. I don't recall him ever playing here, has he? But I guess he didn't get the news that there is a NEW turf field that is so much better than the old one. If we see them in the playoffs is he gonna pass on that game too?
What is RBNY's record with/without Henry? Seems to me that they have issues playing well with Henry, Cahill and Wright-Phillips all on the field at the same time because Dax Macarty is left with too much defensive work to do. Pushing Cahill up to forward might work to their advantage.
Henry is what? 36? And still playing soccer at a decent level. He knows playing on these artificial surfaces are not conducive to a long career. Same with Schelotto.
Isn't there going to be grass on sunday? Or are they going to take it up that quick after the Portugal/Mexico match?
Cahill will be with Australia for their World Cup camp. That basically leaves Wright-Phillips and McCarty as the only truly quality players in their starting lineup, IMO.
Honestly, as crappy as last week's performance was, I think this week's is the match that'll be most telling about the Revs and whether they've really turned a corner. If they've finally "gelled", they'll bounce back and put in a solid performance against NYRB. If they don't, well, it'll probably be another summer of crapshoot soccer, where sometimes the 10-goals-in-2-games team shows up, and sometimes the flop-in-Montreal does, with little predictability as to which.
Maybe so, but for the money they are paying, he should be more than a part-time player. I don't care for turf, but with 4 teams playing on it, the odds of a "key" game (maybe this year's playoffs?) being on the plastic are higher. If I was the Nouveau Mutts, I would want my best team out there, even if it means playing on an asphalt parking lot. Maybe OK to pass on the random RS game, but they are lucky this isn't in October with the playoffs on the line. And at 36, good for Henry that he's still able to play, but how many years does he still have on his RB contract? He's got to be done after that, don't you think?
Who says our broadcast partners don't plug the Revs? Revolution’s Fagundez Named Finalist For MLS Player Of The Month June 3, 2014 12:26 PM 98.5FM The Sports Hub boston.cbslocal.com Of course, their home page header has this:
Quoting myself because I always forget at least one of NYRB's good players when I talk about their depth - Lloyd Sam has obviously been great for them this year, and Olave played last week - not sure if he is turf-averse as well. Take a look at this bench though: G Ryan Meara D Kosuke Kimura D Connor Lade M Armando F Peguy Luyindula F Andre Akpan D Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo That is seriously...jack and sh** in terms of field players.
I'm shocked! Shocked I tell you! June 29, 2002. The last time the Revs lost at home to the team formerly known as the Metros. I really love that streak.
I know... that's what I meant by notwithstanding (meaning, change of venue is still ok). I guess what I said could be interpreted in different ways..
Could you imagine if a top class NFL quarterback -like Manning, Rodgers or RG3- refused to play on turf @ the Pats? The negative media coverage in said QB's home city would be insufferable.
