I'm going to try calling them tomorrow. Do you know what the deal is with the CDW? I booked through rentalcars.com and apparently my rental doesn't include the CDW. Do you know if the credit card companies cover that in Brazil?
We have two Ghana tickets up for sale (Category 3). A friend received some bad family news and had to cancel the trip. PM me if interested.
Backpacks and normal rollerbags are ok. They just say 5kg. Never seen it enforced. Worst case is a gate check.
there are charter flights to Natal from Amsterdam as well, but now I'm just being a smart ass. I keep hearing people say international flights will go to Augusto Severo "for the whole world cup" or "until the USA game" but seen no official word... Guess we'll just have to wait a few days and see that USA meets Natal youtube vid.... what accent is that supposed to be?!
Did you see the entire video? The video was narrated by an American who lives here in Natal. Of course he has a strong portuguese accent, same as we have an accent when we speak english (if that's not our native language)
Hello, We got extra tickets all Category 1 seats in same row: 3 for USA V Ghana ; 4 USA V Germany. Please email jules_cattie@yahoo or text 917-838-7584 if interested. Exchange in NYC or will FedEx to you (after paypal). JR
They replied to my e-mail and assured me that my reservations would be honored. Which is good news because I hear getting a taxi from the new airport is impossible.
American Express is pretty good with that if you booked with it - I'd call and confirm though. I actually booked directly through Localiza.
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopi...o_do_Amarante-Natal_State_of_Rio_Grande_.html The current discussion on the latest page of this thread is regarding wait times for taxis at the new airport - up to an hour according to some reports.
http://blogdobg.com.br/insuficiente...-se-pegar-um-taxi-desembarque-novo-aeroporto/ Brazilians dont like to queue at the best of times, so could be carnage yea still a few days to get it all sorted, yay!
Hello Everyone!!! I am not a dude and this is my first post here. I am very excited to go to the game. I live outside Boston (go socks!) but I am from Natal. Assuming you are all going for a good time there, here are some suggestions from a "local". First of all, Natal is a very family friend place, however, there are some places that prostitutes and drug dealers are located. Going to Ponta Negra Beach, for example, stay away from the end of the beach, more you go away from "Morro do Careca", more cool nice young college students type of locals you meet. If you see places with Germain, Italy, etc... flags, more chances are that it's not a good area. I like to go to the beach right after the Erivan Franca avenue ends. It's a good mix of tourists and locals and not so crowd. The best way to go to the stadium it's by BUS or even better, the vans. It's probably going to be traffic, so a taxi may end up very expensive. At Carnatal (the biggest popular party in town) that's what we do. You can go and come back any time easily. There are PLENTY public transportation in the regular bases that goes from Ponta Negra to Arena das Dunas, so don't even stress about it. Marina Badaue in Pirangi, and Pipa are two things you get to do there. Locals goes to the mall to eat and socialize, and the best place to eat after hours is called Pittsburg. They are open 24/7 and eveyone goes there. Be careful with the food on the streets if you are sensitive. There's no health department inspection for food carts!!! They sell delicious food, and have a friendly approach, but not for "Americans" stomach. The places that you must eat: Tabua de Carne Restaurant Farol (Farol bar) Pizzaria Reis Magos Churrasquinho do Pedao Bella Napolli Pizzaria Natal is an expensive town. Don't be surprised that even though you have American Dollars you will find everything expensive. Be prepared. Sodas are not refill and be prepared to pay at least U$2.5 for a can of soda in many restaurants. If you ask for water, they will bring you mineral water, not tap water. Always agree first to a cab ride, for example, and ask 2 or 3 for how much would be and THEN you kind of know how much would cost. The area of the FAN FAST is VERY dangerous. Going there and getting out NEEDS double of your attention. Another remind is that old Armani X watch you have may have only cost to you $100 on the outlet, but in Brazil, they cost a whole month working for 64% of the population. Whatever you don't really need or you are really attached, don't even bother to bring there. Your wedding ring has a sentimental value to you? Go to walmart and get another one just for the trip. I am not saying that to make anyone nervous. BUT be proactive, don't go anywhere with loads of credit cards and money. separate your money in piles to be used as you go, leave the rest in the hotel SAFE among with your credit card. In Brasil most of the places don't ask for ID (like 99.9999%) and your DL will do just fine, don't take your passport. Brazilians party, before, during and after games. But don't worry, they have red bull. lol See you there! GO USA!!!
NEW AIRPORT If you don't have a lot of luggage, you can take a BUS (Praca or Alecrin) to the city and switch to one to your final destination, like ponta negra. Taxis from the new airport to ponta negra will be expensive. At least U$50, but can be more expensive if it's night or if you want air conditioning. It is at least an hour drive time from the airport to ponta negra. If you have your itinerary I can help and let you know where you can switch the bus. NONE of the flights from AMERICA are considered international flights in Brazil because customs is done somewhere else. What means (for example) you take a plane from Miami to Rio and then Rio to Natal, that means your flight is DOMESTIC and you go to the new airport.
Great post. Super useful info. One question-- If we are staying in Tibau do Sul (near Pipa), what do you recommend in terms of transport from the airport to the hotel… and from the hotel to the game? Thanks!
Hello, 3 tickets for USA v Ghana, same row in Category 1. If interested please email me at jules_cattie@yahoo or text me at 917-8387584 . I live/work in NYC so can meet here or mail if needed. Jules
Arena peppers address, unlike their Facebook map seems to be prett close to ponte negra. Maybe 15 mins away. Google street view makes it look like an empty Volkswagen car lot but maybe our natal friends can give is more info?
it looks like 6-7km from what I measured out to the center of PN staying on major streets. Too far to walk (especially at night) but a fairly short taxi ride.
I think it's because Facebook uses Bing, and Bing is more f'ed up than even Apple Maps!! If you found the Volkswagen lot, you're in the right pace I think. This is where i think it is: 5°52'6.32"S, 35°13'2.05"W put that into Google Maps or Google Earth and is it what you're looking at?
Can somebody give me any info on the hotel I'm staying at? Reviews have not been that great and I'm worried it's going to suck. Thank you Vila do Mar Hotel Via Costeira 4233, Natal, State of Rio Grande do Norte 59090-001
It has a 4 out of 5 on trip advisor and booking.com. It's much better than the reviews for my hotel in manaus. I'm sure your fine.
