I am getting a little sick of all the people around the league thinking that there is some conspiracy involving call that go against other teams when it comes to fouling Landon. Lets look at the facts, the guy don't weigh but a buck O'five soaking wet, so as with Beasley, guys are going to be able to knock him down easier, that is just a fact, and if I was him I would also go down at the slightest touch. That is just smart soccer. Secondly, compared to all the "physical forwards" in the league, guys who take wacks at defenders, like Ruiz, Razov, Guevara and Wolff, I find it hard to believe that a guy who seldom ever goes in with his elbows or studs up, or tugs on the shirt or anything else these other guys do, is somehow getting preferential treatment from the league. Lastly, of all the people to making comments about Landon getting the calls, Wynalda, as much as I liked him, was a dirty forward, he would wack guys all the time, but I guess for a guy like Eric, that is the definition of a man, someone who takes shots at the defender. Bobles
Minor point on Guevara. Bobles point is well taken (especially when Wynalda says something like that).
DuH!!! I know the guy is a midfielder, my point is that he scores goals liek the other guys on the list and tends to get physical. Bobles
Wynalda can be a major @$$hole at certain points during the game. But what can he do when Rob Stone is his commentating partner?
no kidding. he actually rolled his eyes at the camera today during halftime-- or maybe he's that done before...
he was complimentary at first of both teams, but as it became clear KC was having an off day (meaning Donovan) he became more critical of KC. He also gave some props to LD--saying he was the best player in the league, and called him a 'man' for taking a high elbow to the chops from zavagnin and not trying to sell it as worse than it was (though it should've been a yellow) since he might be a teammate on wednesday in kingston.
Well you caould always read the very first post. But if not, then here is it and remember I am paraphrasing a bit. In the first half there was a foulf at midfield involving KC player and Lanny, and Landon went down and the ref gave the KC player a yellow. Eric said that he thought the foulf did not warrant a yellow, but "Because the ref gave the yellow BECAUSE it was Landon Donovan." Bobles
He also said he didn't think it warranted a yellow b/c the foul occured in the 19 minute or so. So basically what he was saying was Landon could be fouled like that and the player shouldn't have receive a yellow b/c it was so early in the game. I'm sure if HE had been fouled like that early in the game he would have been screaming for a card. But dear god, I guess you forget about those things when you're no longer playing.
Well you caould always have written a coherent very first post. A gracious thank you Aquarius21 and willykirk.
Yeah, Wynalda is a revelation in the booth. But, Stone is a dweeb. Anyone catch him saying that Mullan goes hard into tackles...hard into everything...bets he even goes hard into bed. Uhhhhhh... Stone, please stop!
Yeah, I heard that. Pretty dumb, and about par for the course. I don't know how that guy managed to get a job. Anyone know where the applications are for ESPN announcer?
Eric can be very sarcastic. I did not appreciate that comment he made on Landon either. But, he does try to give impartial comments. He said "LA sucks" when it was due and lauds them if they are performing well. But whatever. All I was concerned was how Landon, getting whacked from left, right and center (not to mention the Chings-ter!) wasn't reacting as bad as he did in that NE match. I guess that $1000 fine and suspension taught him well.
Sorry Bobles, as important as you'd like to think you are, JazzyJ and uclacarlos are the designated thread-killers on this board, and the thread ain't over till they have a dictionary war.
