So per Bianchi, Sanchez and Hairston out for sure. Powers is practicing. Chris Bianchi @Rapids_News ·4 hrs Awesome quote from Mastroeni on #Earthquakes game just now: "It's probably not going to be a pay-per-view soccer match."#Rapids96
Given the history and reputation of SJ, I am thinking now is the time to put some of our thug-life people out there. Labrocca, Sturgis, Buddle, etc. Maybe run Pablo out for a half. Let Chavez have a run at his old team, even. Not sure about Powers. Would love to have him there, but not really wanting to see him get hurt.... rod.
I would bet we'll see O'Neill and Piermayr on the back line for this one. Buddle will start too. I hate the narrow pitch at Santa Clara, it forces the game up the middle more which takes away from the finesse of players like Serna and Eloundou. Still, it's a big game for the Rapids in the sense that 3 points would get them into second in the conference. Not counting on it though as it seems that SJ is one of the clubs that has the Rapids' number, just as the Rapids seem to have LA's number .
Funny, I thought that your were talking about the return of our #8. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...ooks-ready-return-midweek-clash-san-jose-eart
With San Jose having only won a single game this season, is there a reason we shouldn't expect the Rapids to win?
Sánchez sidelined with a knee injury from Galaxy game - http://www.coloradorapids.com/news/2014/05/sanchez-sidelined-knee-injury-galaxy-game
Hoo boy. It would probably be a good idea to figure out how to move the ball better and get some shots in better positions (so our forwards can fail to finish them, but one step at a time). Though I suppose it won't happen in this non-pay-per-view, non-must-see-tv game.
San Jose- Fouls committed 84 Fouls suffered 96 Colorado- Fouls committed 92 Fouls suffered 88 San Jose is next to last in Fouls Committed. Thugs you say?
Ugh, not good news on Sanchez. I fear we are in for a season full of one injury or another for him and far fewer appearances than we'd like or need from him. In his brief time on the team, he has always seemed pretty fragile. Anybody know his pre-Rapids injury history? Also, can an MRI really diagnose a sprain? I thought it could only sees tears.
Damn. I always tell people there is still always a team that feels like the winner and one that feels like the loser in a draw, and well I guess that one felt like such a loss to me that I thought we really did lose it. Still, I say we struggle with their size and physicality (aka dirty play) and on the road a draw will probably feel like a win, unless it is lose the lead type of draw. Ok, number of times plays weren't called fouls, but would have been considered physical assault if it didn't occur on a sports field. San Jose: 1 Colorado: 0
Looks like Djalo is out for SJ, so that helps. Not sure if I want to see Serna or Powers battling it out with these guys for a full 90. Maybe Gordon will get the red he so deserved from last meeting?
San Jose- Fouls committed 84 Fouls suffered 96 Games Played 7 FC/game 12 FS/game 13.7 Colorado- Fouls committed 92 Fouls suffered 88 Games Played 8 FC/game 11.5 FS/game 11 I'm not taking a side on the thug debate, but lets make sure we're comparing apples to apples here.
Hmmm. Not a stellar record in SJ against SJ. Sanchez is less useful against a big and physical team like San Jose. Not that we can't use him, but I'd be more concerned if he were out against LA or Vancouver. Based on gut feeling only, 2-1 Rapids loss. I don't think it will be a scoreless draw, and I think we are too mismatched size-wise. Buddle gets #100. Now, if I were to use my head a little bit, I would probably say 1-1 draw with an outside chance of a Rapids win, scoring multiple goals.
