All in all, I agree with the call. Except that the original foul was (IMO) outside the box. The S'land fans point out that the holding up of the forward continued inside the box. I'm not so sure. I think the original foul was outside. So, for me, it was a red plus a FK.
I don't think he has the worst first touch in the EPL.... That distinction goes to another CONCACAF striker that is worse than Altidore..... Kenwyne Jones. I think Altidore is a more fixable project than him.
That's his biggest problem...At his size and height, he should be better in this department...I don't see how he can evolve and take the next step in his development without improving these areas.....He obviously needs to change his football mentality and just like you said, he should be a bit more like McBride and start throwing his body at crosses into the box.
I wonder what happens if this interpretation was used and Jozy is given that goal (was it Chelsea?) at the start of the year
He may not have the worst first touch in the PL, but he certainly has one of the worst. At this point in his career, I doubt it is something that can be fixed.
He has improved this aspect outside the box. But until he improves attacking set pieces in the box, he will be limited
Arsenal. Good point. That was a DOGSO, red, plus FK. That pull is a lot worse than the one we saw today. And the guy was their last defender. Just like today. Wow.
Few people might just be eating humble pie tonight. Sunderland have shown remarkable improvement to climb out of the bottom 3. Poyet maybe is not so clueless after all eh?? Wickham might actually be a good young prospect? That gimp Robbie Earle should be reminded for his stupidity for life about repeating american broadcasters script a few weeks ago, that wickham was out of his depth and what Sunderland really needed was Jozy which of course many on here lapped up.
Mean while, at Swansea Bony scored another 2. Thats well over 20 in all competitions now. I still can't believe I had people on here pull me up on that when I said he was clearly a better player and then enlighten us with Jozy would have similar numbers at Swansea
Loaning Wickham and relying on Jozy and Fletcher instead for most of the season was a monumental screwup by Sunderland.
NBC. This is the same man sacked from British broadcasting network ITV for selling his complimentary World Cup tickets for profit...The man would do or say anything for money, a total sellout.
Altidore will probably never be a good in-air forward but there are a lot of things he could do. If he just went back to the basics, I'm sure his form would improve overnight. His touch isn't as bad as his on-the-ball composure. Those things seem to have escaped him since leaving Holland. Any striker worth his salt knows..... 1)Keep mental tabs on the amount of defenders marking you and their relative positions. 2)Keep mental tabs on your support and their attacking runs. 3)Recognize where the empty space(s) are so you are able to receive the ball safely. 4)Your first touch should be into empty space relative to your supporting player(Never play away from support). 5)Always try to play your support through(unless the situational objective is to maintain possession) 6)After playing your support through, make dangerous supporting runs in support of your team mate. This is really basic stuff, but for whatever reason(maybe confidence), he hasn't been doing these things on a consistent basis. He needs to watch Luis Suarez. He isn't even that big, but his hold-up play is what I consider the diamond standard. Defenders are always worried about him whether it's pulling defenders out of position and playing others through or using the space that's afforded to him and creating chances. If Altidore did these things, his scoring rate(and assist rate)would sky-rocket.
He can't do these things because he simply isn't good enough. At this point in his career it seems that lax defending, and not individual skill, is what has helped Jozy succeed when/where he has.
Americans don't eat porridge. If you're going to speak in nothing but cliches on the YA forum, do your homework.
