The experience and conditioning to playing so many games is what is most important. Lyon is going to try to win so Juve really need to be at their best. I have a feeling it won't be easy.
http://football-italia.net/47644/conte-shift-juve-midfield yea, so much emphasis Conte is treating the EL like the Coppa Italia, and I don't blame him, scudetto is still the #1 priority
For me, at this point the EL should be our primary concern. If this team can't keep an 8 points lead, hell even win it by 3 points, from now until the end of the season then they don't deserve the Scudetto. Winning a European trophy, that would allow us to compete for another European trophy, should be the primary concern. We've made it this far, it would be stupid to stop now.
To win the league we can loss at least two more games, assuming Roma doesn't lose at all. The only team that should even be possible against is Roma on the second last game day (even if we field our second team for most other games).
Looking at Simeone approach with Atleti compared to Conte. Simeone with a smaller and arguably lesser talented squad is able to approach the CL with an intensity that I think Conte wants out of Juve but has't developed yet. Understandably securing a 3rd league would be fantastic, but Juve should be able to do so while competing at a higher level in the EL. If Juve can't then hopefully they address that in the summer. Otherwise how do they expect to compete in the later stages of the CL along with Serie A next year? Winning the EL not only allows them to recoup what they lost in the CL (if Juve were eliminated in the quarters), but it allows them to play a quality European team in the final. Moreover, it allows Juve to set the tone and send a message to start next season with the opportunity to knock off the champions of Europe. Win that game, and this past CL campaign elimination then really seems like a fluke which can galvanize the squad. CL needs to be priority and it starts with the EL. If they don't take this seriously and close it out, then Juve will be full of question marks entering their CL group stage.
Yeah, makes sense. Let's continue to make a second-rate competition our focus; where our key competitors are the perennial powers, Roma and Napoli.
difference is simeone doesnt try Long balls to nowhere tactic 6767343 times in a game. he actually constructs an attack and has some type of counter attacking system. Conte lacks a counter attack...i have yet to see us score a counter goal like we did against lazio in the super coppa....the lichsteiner combined with chiellini goal. also a good example of what you mention above is chelsea.....they were CL champs, we knocked em out in group stages, they went on to win EL....and now they're back in CL semis. its true that if we cant keep a 8 point lead with 7 games left, then we dont deserve the scudetto....all focus right now should be on EL
First you complain about long balls. Then you complain that we do not score from a counter. Guess what, most counters are products of long balls. We play a possession style. It is not kick & run. We also put pressure on the opponent. So where counter attacking teams expend their energy to rush the goal, ours is used to break the opposition. With a possession style, the team keeps its shape. That helps defensively. Also factor in that Pirlo is the midfield general, we are a possessive team. Our strikers are not blessed with blazing speed. The counter style does not fit Llorente. Tevez might do ok but his strength is connecting with the midfield. Maybe Giovinco could play in that role. For the most part, teams don't give us the space to counter. Teams that get beat on a counter usually have too many players pushing forward. That has happened against us when we have given a goal or chance on a counter. When we play teams who put 9 behind midfield, those opportunities are not going to come. So understand why you don't see us scoring those counter attacking goals.
Claudio Zuliani La Juventus vuole andar avanti in coppa con il 3-5-2 Buffon Caceres Bonucci Chiellini Isla Vidal Pirlo Marchisio Asamoah Vucinic Tevez
The article from Football Italia has the same lineup. Juventus: Buffon; Caceres, Bonucci, Chiellini; Isla, Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio,Asamoah; Tevez, Vucinic Juventus bench: Storari, Ogbonna, Lichtsteiner, Pogba, Giovinco, Llorente,Osvaldo
Vucinic and Tevez together. If it sparks as it did up until Vucinic got injured in that unfortunate first half vs Gala in Turin then Juve can be quite creative in attack today. Vucinic/Tevez partnership was a thing of beauty early on. Too bad we never had the chance to see to much of it. If anything Isla can't complain for lack of chances as he is the go to RWB in the EL. He has to impress at some point right!?
JP Dellacamera and Brian McBride doing the game for FS1, I like JP. Nice to hear them rocking some Foo Fighters at the stadium
And there it is, after a rough 5 minutes and poor man marking by Marchisio, it's tied 1-1. Oh and it should have been a goal kick instead of a corner, but it is what it is.
Its more important to not get scored on at this point than actually score isn't it? Away goal rules the same in EL as CL?
Yes, they score another and we don't we're out. Important to get another goal. Lyon would need 3 to advance.
