I missed the match, but saw Gomez got hurt, they played us even with 10 guys for an hour, and Joaquin got the lone goal. I am more concerned with how we played, can anyone comment? I think we can all agree Inter losing was a huge boost heading into the game, and I was mostly hoping for a draw heading in to separate us from them. Anyway, I would appreciate any comments if someone watched the match!
Did Neto play like this all year? And in the past I saw only his not so good games? Because lately he was phenomenal. If he plays like this Tatarusanu will warm Viola's bench
I think that, though he has had some hiccups, overall Neto has been very good for us. I'm probably biased, though, as I was among those rare Viola fans who was fine with having him as our #1 going into the season. He just needed some confidence.
Interesting to see where things stand after this coming weekend. We're a bit tired and battered (damn it, losing Gomez again), but if we can get wins in the 2 matches we have this week (against Milan and Samp) we could find ourselves seriously within striking distance for 3rd place. Napoli face off against Juve over the weekend. Potential to close the gap between us even more.
Matri is terrible, every game he has opportune moments to change the game and he whiffs. We also need defensive reinforcements - there is no excuse the best player on our team should be moved to right back.
I like Tomovic, honestly. There's just a huge drop off between him and Roncaglia. Pasqual's decline is obvious. Hopefully Alonso comes back and makes an impact over our summer trainings. I think Valero and Aquilani are fine but Pizarro and Ambrosini are in steep decline and Mati can be good in certain situations but we really need a complete midfielder. I think we'll lose Cuadrado to fund arrivals. I'm fine with Vargas and Joaquin on the wings but they're both aging.
I'd like to be upset about what's happening at the end of this season, but honestly - the injury bug has hit pretty damn hard. This is where the really rich clubs can withstand, because of the depth. Not that I'm saying anything ground-breaking here, but the guys we're running out there, especially on attack, well...
In addition to the injuries, we've just looked tired out there. I think our UEFA matches against Juve wore both teams out. They've been winning their matches just scraping by, pretty much the same as we did in our win against Napoli last weekend. Think we would have done better if the past week didn't have the midweek round. Our players needed the rest.
Can we hold it together? A win like this is certainly going to help...onward and upward (now with less fixture congestion)!
