I went to my first ever football game yesterday. It was an NCAA game between Stony Brook and St. Johns. I was able to get free tickets. Stony Brook had just finish building a new stadium with a capacity of about 8,000. The game was just plain boring. The crowd was dead with a bunch of losers. I can't stand the constant Jock Jam stuff they keep playing and people dancing foolishly to them. The people barely applauded during good plays. It was just too slow. I still watch football occasionely, but attending the game was just boring. I went because it was the inaugural game at the stadium. Next time, I would have to pay to see the game and there's no way I'm paying for football. Give me soccer any day. I guess I'm just spoiled with standing and chanting with ESC. The crowd at the football game was nothing like it. Again, give me soccer and ESC any day.

Our men's football team suck. Only thing worth watching are women's soccer and women's vollyball. Our mascot sucks too, he just stands there. Well, I guess when you are the "Seawolf" you can't do much on land.

Not having an affiliation to either team or fantasy points at stake (professional football) or the intrigue of an underdog going up against a national powerhouse, etc... I can see how it might be boring....especially watching it played essentially on high school level.

Also, the kickers on both sides was a complete joke. They were practicing at halftime.

I'm just imagining someone saying this in Europe.

It would be like the Twilight Zone. :D

  7. If you watch on TV it is not quite as boring, with all of the cool special effects and sounds. Robots playing football and crashing helmets and all. You also get four or five really smart people commentating on the game, and if you are lucky, John Madden commenting on everything BUT the game. Plus it only takes three or four hours to play a sixty-minute game, and there are lots of fun breaks where a team of refs takes two minutes to determine if the ball moved one inch or two. After further review...football rules!

I figured out why first college football teams have a hard time winning their first bowl games. Its because every five minutes they have to stop and have a TV timeout. The teams stand around trying to keep warm and stretched out. Teams that have been there before know how to handle all the hype better. Most boring game I ever went to. I'll take real football any day. Can you imagine stopping an english premier league game for a commercial?

Football will never measure up to soccer in terms of fan participation (singing, chanting and all), but you went to what amounts to a lower-level high school game in a basketball/hockey region. Go watch Alabama v. Auburn. You'll see excitement in the stands and on the field.

That will probably be the last football game for me at Stony Brook. I hate the way they keep promoting football. I know this happens everywhere. But I hate it. I mentioned this in another forum, but Stony Brook has a new stadium called Seawolves Stadium. I would much prefer to see a game played inside the stadium. However, sometimes games are played in the stadium, sometimes it's not. Sometimes, the soccer games have to be played in some cheap field next to the stadium because of football practice. Regardless, I will still attend the soccer games no matter where it is. But screw football.

said the same thing about a chicago bears game i went to... although i still love to watch them play on tv, but games in person are a nightmare

i have no idea what one is suppose to do... there is essentially nothing to watch, nothing to do, and a horrible seat to sit on... and then it is often VERY cold with the same things

give me section 8 any day
