If you don't have tickets, it's $160, free if you have tickets.

I'd advise you to buy ANY cat 3 ticket that is available, specially if the have is during your stay in Brazil. Cat 3 tickets are only $90, so even if you don't go to the game, it saves you $70 (assuming you don't plan on going to Brazil after the world cup).

Free if you have tickets to at least one game.

Is it mandatory that i use the consulate in my jurisdiction? Do we think I'll be turned away if i show up in person at a different consulate?

I live in CO, but work frequently in california, can stop in on my next work trip.

It's not clear to me whether you need to pay $20 if you're submitting via mail, so could you tell me if you had to pay anything other than the express mail costs? I know the visa itself is free, but their mail instructions say that there is a processing fee of $20 per application.

I was asked to re-post this message in this forum for all of you guys that need help with Visa's....

    FREE BRAZIL WORLD CUP VISA'S:

So today I ventured out in the snow and went to the Brazil Consulate in Washington DC and applied for my Visa. I figured I'd share my experience with everyone in this forum to help give you guys an idea on the process and documentation needed to get the Free World Cup Tourist Visa. Make sure that before you go, you visit the Consulate's website in your area, and fill out the form to submit your application online. Once this is submitted, you need to print out the confirmation and take this with you to the consulate so they can find your info, along with the required documentation (listed below) to prove that you are a spectator.

So I arrived at the Consulate in DC - a few blocks walk from the McPherson Square metro. They had weird hours during the week, so make sure you check ahead! They are open from 9am-1pm Monday-Friday, and closed on weekends. 1pm on a weekday bro? haha come on...
    [IMG]snapped a pic)

So once I arrived at the Consulate, I walked inside and they asked me what I was there for. I told them I needed a World Cup Visa, and the security guard punched a button and handed me a queue ticket. I sat down and waited for them to announce the number on my ticket. This place reminded me of sitting in line at a DMV here in the U.S. - which sucks. While waiting, I noticed the guy in front of me in line was there for his Cup Visa too. Apparently he had USA-Ghana and USA-Portugal tickets. Another guy that I met while waiting had tickets to all of Cameroon's group stage games. Being there was awesome, the experience makes you feel like the World Cup is so close.

So they finally called my number after waiting for 10-15 minutes or so. I walked up to the clerk booth and sat down in front of her. The two of us were separated by glass, kinda like a bank teller. That sh*t was probably bulletproof, but I didn't test it.

The following documents were required to submit the VISA application:
    1. Email confirmation of round-trip flight to/from Brazil during the period of the World Cup. (Make sure this confirmation includes the PAYMENT DETAILS (AKA Total Price Paid), as the lady mentioned to me this was required for the flight confirmation in order to process the Visa)
    2. Application submission confirmation printed from consulate website.
      Washington DC Application - http://cgwashington.itamaraty.gov.br/en-us/visa_application_form.xml
    3. Printout showing proof of World Cup tickets, which must include your name as either primary applicant, or as a registered guest. Since I was the primary applicant, I just took a copy of the FIFA confirmation email that I received from the latest FCFC draw. I made sure the email included my Ticket Request ID, as well as the whole 'Congratulations' message showing the games I received. If you are the 'Guest' on someone's application, you can log into the FIFA Ticket platform, and print out the page showing the registered guests for the game, and this printout can be used. Also, even if you are a guest, go ahead and bring the confirmation email as well as the printout showing guest names, to ensure you have sufficient info.
    4. You need to give them your Passport
    5. A recent (within the last 6 months) 2x2 inch professional photo. No Facebook photo's people! (If you don't have one of these, you can get them taken at most local Post Offices or other places that you can buy passports from).
They did not ask for proof of hotels, even though I brought those confirmations with me - just in case. She said only round-trip flight confirmation and tickets were needed to prove we were going during the Cup.

Once I gave her all the required documents listed above, she reviewed the documents and gave me a receipt saying my VISA will be ready for pickup on April 1st. I submitted mine on 3/25, so that's a 6-day turnaround! Not bad, but I would imagine this length of time will greatly fluctuate as the World Cup nears, so don't wait til the last minute or you could be screwed!

I will be going back to the Consulate sometime after April 1st to pick up my VISA. I also wanted to let you guys know, that if you live far from the nearest Consulate, you can do all of this stuff through the Mail. Check the consulate's website, and GOOD LUCK if you try to call them. I tried numerous times to get through to a real person using the number on their website, and they didn't answer.

Also, they told me that if I would have brought a postage-paid envelope addressed to myself with me, they would have used that to ship the Visa once processing was complete. I didn't realize they did this, and will remember that next time to avoid having to metro back to DC to grab the Visa.

All-in-all, the process was painless. I was in and out of there within 20 minutes - including the wait time.

I hope this helps any of you that still had questions on the process, and gives hope that the process can be done without too much inconvenience. Make sure you check the required documents on the consulate website beforehand to ensure that you have ALL required information. Different consulates possibly could have different requirements.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to PM me.

    - See you in Brazil.

I would echo this with a Boston Consulate perspective. In and out in 20 minutes. I had the application submission confirmation and photo, passport and proof of tickets from FIFA consisiting of email and screen shot of guests. Did not need flight or hotel confirmation for Boston Consulate. I submitted 4 applications (mine, wife and 2 kids) and was given receipt with a date 2 weeks out to return and pick up visas.

Visas came back today... 10 business days door to door.
USPS was by far the worst part of the process. They weren't very helpful sending out, and today they delivered it to the wrong address. I had to flag down the mail man to ask where it was :/

Also, they returned the $20 money order I thought was required due to applying via the mail was sent back.... So the visa only cost me postage.

I went to the Embassy in Dublin today and they asked me for a FIFA ticket certificate. I have no idea what the hell this is- all the documents I had proving that I had a flight and brought tickets were not accepted.

    Super frustrating.

    Anyone else experience this?

I think that somewhere earlier in this thread someone mentioned the certificates. Those are electronic confirmation of tickets for those that are picking up tickets in Brazil, versus those of us that are having tickets delivered via DHL.

That's weird that they asked you for a certificate this early, as nobody has received these yet from FIFA! Therefore, you couldn't possibly provide them with this info. Based on the information I found on my local consulate website, it appears that these certificates could be provided to us around April 15th, which is when the ticket transfer platform opens.

Keep in mind though, that this is from the Washington DC consulate in the US.

FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014: VISA FOR SPECTATOR (VITUR-TE)
    Specific supporting document required:
    • From now until April 15th, 2014: Proof of purchase of ticket valid for any of the games of the FIFA World Cup 2014, being that the names of all individuals requesting the visa must be visible on such proof of purchase of ticket (email message from FIFA with the applicant's name and print out of page with guests names visible) along with proof of purchase of airline ticket to and from Brazil.
    • After April 15th, 2014: original ticket certificate issued by FIFA along with proof of purchase of airline ticket to and from Brazil.

I got the impression that the ticket certificates are going to be physically mailed. Is that what other people understood? We have two people in our group in South Africa who need the certificates for their visas (they're US citizens) and I wrote FIFA asking if we could have the certificates sent to them instead of the main applicant. They responded stating that the certificates were going to be mailed to the main ticket applicant's postal address and that it was too late to change it now.

I just returned from the consulate in DC. It took a total of 45 minutes; 40 minutes waiting and 5 minutes at the desk. They accepted the screen shot of my FIFA successful ticket application with my credit card statement showing the charge from FIFA for the match ticket and my roundtrip flight reservation showing the amount paid for the airline ticket. I brought a prepaid flat rate mailer from the USPS so they can send everything back to me instead of me picking it up. They will mail back my passport and visa in one week's time.
