You know, I hadn't really thought about it, but yeah! Now that you bring it up and I reflect a moment... When I see him on the sidelines a few things bug me. 1. He's always angry (granted, I've only get the TV view) or frustrated. I think 'maybe if he was a better coach with a more confident plan, he'd be less stressed and tensions wouldn't come pouring out so easy'. 2. Also, the respectful attire he wears does not suit #1 above. Like he hasn't matured enough to don the dapper fashions. Oh well... We can chalk this up to yet another thing on the list of things to complain about. Well played!
I'd bet that he irks you in general, so little things about him are going to seem more noticeable and more irksome. Meaning, if you were generally happy with him, you wouldn't care much at all about his clothing. While I wouldn't like to see it, if given the either/or choice, we'd joyfully pick a guy dressed like Ronald McDonald if he could get the team to look cohesive from the get go, as opposed to a dapper dude whose teams always seem to need just a few extra months to gel.
Good point. And maybe an example would be... if Belichick sucked, I think lot's of people would also criticize his generally sloppy appearance and uncouth personal habits.
Are you confusing angry with intensity? I think he's pretty level headed. I've seen that look too, but when he has to do his in-game analysis with the announcers, he instantly becomes very polite and well spoken. Stevie Nicol was a different story and he was a hoot! When he had to comment when the team wasn't playing well, he didn't hide his disgust.
Good point by you. Belichick's whole public demeanor seems designed to irk others, but he wins, so we love him. Now if you ask people in Cleveland about him, not quite as much love. Hmmm..., if Heaps gets fired after next year, then goes to the Crew and wins 3 MLS Cups in a short amount of time, while we..., no, I'd rather not think about it.
Hey, he's still the last Cleveland HC to win a playoff game. Eight coaches since then, 1 playoff appearance, 0 wins.
apparently you didn't understand what I meant by "I don't want to think about it" Then again, I suppose Heaps hasn't been fired yet, so there's still hope he'll do here what Belichick might instead have done in Cleveland had he not been fired.
You can question Jay Heaps' lineups, tactical adjustments, substitutions, game preparation, and coaching credentials. But you CAN NOT criticize his fashion choices. That man is a STYLE ICON.
You're right, we should be happy we even have a team. Praise Lord Kraft, the savviest of businessmen!
Personally, I just took this thread as a way to have a laugh (see my only post here). Sometimes, not everything needs to be taken seriously. I mean, not that our offense isn't a joke already!
Sometimes his clothes lack the modern slim fit that other younger suit-wearing coaches sport. It's very Western Mass style (5 years behind the rest of us! [only joking Springfielders, relax]).
His clothes don't bother me at all - in fact I think he looks very good. My problem is his constant bitching at the refs, like they're the reason we can't score a goal.
I believe it was in memory of an employee who died. They mentioned it during the broadcast, but I didn't catch most of it.
Oh, Ok. If so, I'm sorry. It just didn't look like a memorial armband... it looked like a black rubber band.
Discussed here already. https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/ernie-branco-nrc.1997782/ https://www.google.com/search?q=ernie branco
Heaps should take on the Eastern Clothing of Watertown gig. I think it's been vacant since Al Skinner left the Heights.
