Yesterday's ticker didn't even show the aggregate score. It would just highlight the team that won the second-leg (even if they lost the aggregate). SMH!
I did not know where to put this but for some reason Dish Network has an OnDemand Fox Deportes classic Copa Libertadores match available for Download. It is a 2010 Semis match between U de Chile and Chivas de Guadalajara. I don't know why they chose that one particular match... ... but they did.
Interesting article on CNNSI about Ian Darke, and the writer openly wonders if Darke will make the jump to Fox when Fox takes the World Cup TV rights starting in 2018. (That is, the writer suggests its a logical move, not anything that Darke has suggested) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mo...an-darke-world-cup-ncaa-tournament/?eref=sihp I'll put it plainer.. whoever has the EPL rights should stick Darke as their #1 announcer.. he has catchet and a value that few other broadcasters have.. (he's a name person who sounds"right" to folks who prefer a European sound to their broadcasters, and he's got recognition from the average fan thanks to his historic USA calls)
That CNNSI Article claims Fox won't budge on their Gus Johnson choice, but isn't it more likely that they in fact have reversed that bone head idea? They aren't forcing us to listen to him "practice" this CL season. And you'd think if ESPN could 'get out of' it's contract with Martin Tyler, Fox could walk all over GuJo....or just assign him some more Harlem Globetrotters exhibitions, where jokes and bufoons are welcomed.
That's just the writer's wishful thinking. Fox will have Gus Johnson and a bunch of other clueless Americans as its commentators for the World Cup. Hiring Ian Darke is clearly a more logical move, but Fox can't care less about logic. The only thing Fox cares about is attracting as many casual viewers as possible, which is why Johnson was chosen as the lead announcer despite the fact that he knows nothing about the sport because his voice is familiar to the mainstream audience who normally watch football and basketball instead of soccer.
The true test with Gus will be the next batch of CL matches because the college bball season is over.
Here's the thing with Gus: I like the guy in other sports. Hopefully he has been watching the sport over the last year to work up his familiarity and has realized some of the dos and donts and terminologies that are exclusive to football. If he comes back into the picture this year with the same issues, he'll be a lost cause for me. This first offseason was his chance to get acquainted with it and if he hasn't, then we're a decade off of him even being passable in the sport.
Dish also has FA Cup classicos from Fox Deportes available for onDemand now. Meh. I don't know who is clamoring to see that kinda stuff but okay.
Grant Wahl @GrantWahl Gus Johnson back in the saddle calling soccer with Eric Wynalda from Old Trafford for Man United-Bayern Munich on April 1.
This has disaster written all over it. I'll give him 15 mins to prove he's at least at an Arlo White level on knowledge. Anything less is unacceptable as Arlo isn't in the same class as Healey/Darke. What's worse, is neither USSF or MLS appear to realize the issues here. They're chasing money while blowing off the fanbase and acting as if we're such idiots we can't tell poor announcing, poor analysis and poor production when we see it. Quite a slap in the face to the footy fans across this nation.
I don't mind Gus as much as others do. It is Wynalda I am worried about. I'd rather listen to Barton... ...and I am not his biggest fan either.
Or hopefully have an option on the SAP button. Hit the SAP while watching El Classico because, as usual, Hudson was just unbearable.
Awful Announcing take on Gus Johnson: Gus Johnson begins make or break second year as soccer announcer http://awfulannouncing.com/2014/gus...or-break-second-year-as-soccer-announcer.html SA www.soccertvblog.com
Last year FoxSoccer2Go carried the international feed even when Gus was announcing on FSC. When I was at home, I'd just pause the TV to allow the audio to catch up and listen to my ipad while watching TV. Since CL games are midweek, I usually watch on FS2Go anyway. May be worth the investment for the rest of you to avoid Gus (assuming they do the same this year).
