If you go to the team office they should have the jerseys there and also a heat transfer machine to customize it.
I hate moral victories, but seeing how LA did and how KC is getting smoked, I think the outlook for the MLS season is pretty dam good. Furthermore, I think Watson created the blueprint for beating Liga MX teams in CCL. MLS teams can't play a free flowing game against a top Mexican side and win. We just can't beat them at that game yet. The best thing to do is play them on our terms and give them nothing and then physically work them on free kicks and corners.
Post your screenshot then because it sure looked like the defender closest to the AR is in back of him.
I think I saw it on Simon Borg's twitter but the quote for tonight is "fourteen lions in blue" well done boys heads held high! We got completely CONCACAF'd tonight by the linesman... not entirely surprising but still infuriating.
Here's a screenshot: This angle is extremely tricky, because as you can see there is some distortion (notice that the lines don't look quite parallel, when in reality they are). But it looks here to be VERY close. Remember, a player is offside if any playable part of his body breaks the offside plane. So his arms don't count, but his head and shoulders do. It looks to me that his shoulder might be just beyond the defender is the foreground's trail leg, but I certainly couldn't say for sure. It comes down to basically a 50/50 guess from the referee. Unfortunately, sometimes you're on the wrong side of that.
I think he's onside without having to even invoke "even goes to the attacker." I could never be an AR. I'd feel guilty about this for years....even if I'd made an honest mistake.
I'm OK with not advancing. We won that game, and everyone knows that the only reason Toluca advanced is because of the ref. The other MLS teams embarrassed themselves but the unheralded Quakes outplayed a top Mexican team. Now we can focus on the league.
Proud of the guys, especially the backups and rookies who stepped up BIG. On the road at insane altitude. The mind wanders to "what ifs".... What if we had our starting back line.. What if we had started Wondo and JBP.. what if we had Djalo... What if that Gordon goal was called onside.. And as much as I hate to say it, what if Busch was bigger/had longer arms? But it really doesn't matter. Regardless of the result, I'm proud and everyone should be proud of the Quakes. We earned a lot of respect tonight around the league and in Mexico. A lot of people are eating crow tonight, especially given the embarrassing performances of KC and LA. We were awesome. Never Say Die.
By the way, I'm totally in denial that Gordon was offside. An MLS ref never would have called that offside. Never ever ever, nananana I can't hear you...
So close. An excellent game plan from the manager, well executed by the team. Reminds me of the 2-1 victory at RSL late last season. San Jose doesn't have the best talent and has some deficiencies, but no MLS team has better character and spirit, which go a long, long way in this league. Watson is starting to shine, and the guys are busting their asses for him. Since the middle of last season, every game has had a must win attitude, and that attitude continues (even at altitude) this season. Gordon looked onside. OK, maybe not in freeze frame, but yes on the highlight package. The young guys (Koval and Shuler) showed great composure, especially in the penalty kicks. Wondo sucks at PK's. Before Salinas' attempt, I turned to my new acquaintance at the bar and said, "He's tired and he's going to miss." Wish I were wrong. Why not pull one out in KC? They've been struggling, especially offensively, and play ugly. Maybe we'll see Vermes' head explode Saturday night. I don't expect it will be a game for the time capsule.
None of the pictures show the ball at the point at which it contacted the foot. And we have to interpolate the lines, as a few people have already tried to do. It's hard to argue that it's anything other than a 50-50, so normally you'd give advantage to the attacker. That said, how often does Flash get called offside? And wasn't that Wondo goal vs RSL more offside than this one? The soccer gods giveth and taketh. For all the whining over the last few months, this team is already indicating that it's a lot better than most of us expected. And a lot more injured.
I'll give Watson this. He made some gutsy calls in this game. Throwing a rookie at CB, resting some of his big guns, saving them for both the end of this game and next. Khari at central mid instead. And that goes for playing Cato at right back as well, although that's been on-going. And I don't know what he did to clean up Francis. Last two games he spiff'd him up, combed his hair, and put him in shiny new shoes and trousers. Much different player than we saw in preseason. Maybe he was playing hurt in the preseason games?
Against long odds with a depleted squad, the boys played their hearts out and left it all on the field. Win or lose, that's all you can ask for... I couldn't be more proud of them. I'm not sweating who made a PK and who didn't. They're a total crapshoot and an unfortunate way to end a game. Just a monumental effort by everyone. The other big takeaway for me was the faith Watson showed in Koval. He slots in a rookie Dmid at the pressure cooking CB position in a do-or-die elimination CCL away game...unbelievable! But Koval has the goods and we're going to see a lot more of him sooner rather than later. We haven't hit our stride yet, but we have a talented stout hearted team...we're going to be a wrecking ball in MLS.
In the spirit of the screen grabs, I went ahead and made one with my own interpretation of the offside rule.
Whatever part of Gordon's body you consider closest to the end line is not at grass level. So, you have to go downward to figure out where that would be. Your visual cortex can do that reasonably well naturally even from above. Trust your brain.
Are you really that.... Obviously you've never been to Mexico, so to put your salt shaker down, here is a small taste.
On the bright side, if we're going to go out, at least we went out in style. At altitude, with a severely depleted lineup, against one of the best teams in Mexico at their place, we still held them to a draw and narrowly went out on PKs. If we advanced we might have been embarrassed by Arabe Unido or Alajualense, since we tend to play better as the underdog, or embarrassed by Cruz Azul or Tijuana (probably Cruz Azul) in the final.
