I don't think he lost a 50/50 battle in the air in either the NE match or the MTL match now that I think about it.

I think he won every header.

    Sick.

We've definitely needed a central defender like him to trust. I'm not sold 100% yet, but from the first two matches, I am impressed. I didn't like how he may have gotten caught ball watching against Montreal, but maybe I'm wrong. Keep those things to a minimum, and we have a game changer. He sure seems to be athletic for his size, which is great for his position.

No, you're right. He had a few miscues against MTL that he didn't have against NE. He'll need to guard against that a bit more but what impressed me was his recovery speed, especially the one where he came clear across the field to block the attempt on goal in the first half. Didn't even see him until he was there.

He got caught ball watching against NE actually when Bengston choked. I honestly think Taylor had a poor game against MTL and once those two get on the same page then they could be a force. We'll have to wait and see how this plays out, but no goals in 2 games sounds awesome.

New banner with Horst in an Indian head dress/war bonnet. This must be done.

    Horst has impressed me greatly!

I'm curious, why did Portland let him go?

Horst was injured last season, so they brought in an Argentinean Norberto Paparazzi, is that the reason why Portland let him go?

Is Horst just another one of those bargain bin, Island of Misfit Toy broken player acquisitions that our budget allows us to bring?

Like all of you, I am cautiously optimistic.

Portland didn't let him go, we acquired him for a fourth round draft pick.....LOL

Seriously though - the main reason why they likely let him go is that he was acquired under Spencer's time at Portland. Caleb Porter comes in and in the year prior, the entire Portland defense was not very good overall. Then last year, Horst gets hurt two games or so into the season and Portland played really well without him. So they moved on without regretting moving him.

Yes. Kinnear knows MLS players better than anyone. So a Tony Cascio has a great first year and is benched in year two and Colorado changes up management --- he swoops in a peels him off their roster as he is a good compliment to the rest of our team. He knows we will be losing Boswell in the offseason and he looks at all MLS rosters, sees the best option he can peel off for a simple fourth round pick and we get Horst.

Sometimes a player doesn't stick due to injury. Sometimes a player doesn't stick to a team because he looks awful surrounded by poor teammates. Sometimes a manager and a player have a run-in and the player gets on the coaches crap list. Sometimes a new coach is brought in and the vision for the team changes fundamentally. Sometimes, the team gets lucky and kills it in the draft and a remarkable player pushes a very good MLS player to the bench.

There are lots of reason players fall out of favor with a particular team. It's not our budget, it's that we have one of the best GM's in MLS.

I criticize the Dynamo often, but I gotta agree with you: Somebody here knows how to pick players. Of course, not all injured players will remain healthy. I would mention Cummings and Carr, but I would get stoned by those who defend them, particularly Carr ("he helped us reach the final etc..." "he stretched defenses..." ).

The point here is that I am very surprised Portland would give them to us for a small price, and Horst is already showing a lot of promise. Looks like a steal!

(of course, we've "let go" of some brilliant players like Wondo also)

It's going to happen in any salary cap league. There is always pressure on you to spend money as efficiently as possible. So, you are going to move a Wondo too soon because he hasn't shown much in the playing time you have given him and he can't get playing time behind Ching and your newly acquired DP forward. You are going to move Kamara because he is an ass and doesn't fit in the locker room. Sometimes those moves will hurt as a player blossoms under a new coach or in a different system. All that matters though is that the sum of the positive transactions greatly exceeds the negative.

I've maintained since he was acquired that he'd turn out to be the steal of the year. It is happening a bit faster than even I anticipated.

Prior to his injury Spencer tipped him as a future USMNT player. You are seeing some flashes of that now.

He was not Porter's guy and became surplus to requirements after last season. Happens sometimes.

Slow down homies. Horst has been excellent so far against a depleted New England and a Montreal without their best striker (who's probably one of the best in the league). Let's revisit this convo in the fall.*

*again I'm not saying he hasn't been a revelation just that we have to put things in perspective. Heck at this point Bruin is on target for 51 goals.

I don't get why you are always coming in here raining on our parade.

Horst for Brazil 2014! Bruin should be sold this summer to Europe for $100 million minimum.
