It's an interesting thought, it's very hard to get into Arsene's mind about these sort of things. It would be odd for him to peace out now that things seem like they might be improving. If he does go, it would probably be down to something behind the scenes.
Hahaha, I posted the same opinion when the thread was opened, but funny to go back and read some of the responses. #ArseneKnows.
Burley, Nicol, and Darke as much said this on tonite's ESPNFC show. I think arsene's contract decision may just turn out to be one of the big suspense stories for the end of the season. He holds all the cards and may just hold playing them until the end. And that would be just fine by me.
If Arsene fails to deliver and end the next 4 matches on a positive note, it's time for him to go. If we can't win this FA cup, he's got to go. Yes, we're missing a few players but that shouldn't be light and day for a well managed club. Would we have been any stronger with Ramsey and Walcott? Perhaps, but I still believe we would've been struggling this time of the year. We need a manager that isn't afraid to pull the trigger on signings and be brave when 0-2 down.
I was thinking more The Wire actually, but who cares 'cuz you're all over the place anyway. A memegif, obscuring a quote from a a 20 year old movie, supposedly relevant to the management of an English football club? But what do I know? English isn't my native language anyway.
In any event, here's a couple links: arsenaltruth.squarespace.com/arsenal-truth/2012/11/4/arsenals-1434m-wage-bill-exposed.html?currentPage=2 angryofislington.com/2013/01/29/arsenal-wages-breakdown-where-does-it-all-go/ There's been a lot of wailing and teeth-gnashing about our wage structure. But for the playing staff at least, we're in pretty good shape. Our players are getting paid about what they should, except Bendtner and Diaby and they surely won't be getting a new contract at the wages they're on now. They problem is with the non-playing staff. Basically, Wenger's attitude is that nobody can make any legit money in football except him. That works real well for Kroenke's pocketbook but not as much for Arsenal. The reality is, there's a lot of plain old work that has to be done to successfully run an EPL team. Less than an NFL team probably but definitely more than an NBA franchise. That work isn't being done at Arsenal, or is done half-ass, because the money that it would take to get somebody good to do what needs to be done is being pocketed by Wenger instead. So when we gripe about why our training staff is injuring our players, why our scouting network is deteriorating, why we can't pull off any transfers, etc., there's your answer.
Wenger stays. Would not like another managerial music chair game like Spurs or Liverpool some time back. I would not trust Kroenke to hire a better manager for the job than what we have.
Yeah, was his fault for the polar vortex and the Venezuela riots. Should have spent in the transfer window to regulate global climate and to get a player who could do a good job after Chavez died.
BBC said this week Martinez is in the pipeline. He isn't doing bad at Everton, but should we win the FA Cup, I can't see Wenger retiring. I get the suspicio he wants one last premier league before he quits, before he's 70 or late 60s. I think he's 64 now.
Martinez is doing pretty good at Everton, but so was Laudrup at Swansea last season. I hope the board plans this very well before they make such an important decision. We don't want to end up like United.
I don't think anyone expected the Man-U crash this year. It is one of those chemistry things that takes time. The best approach is to bring the new manager in for some overlap.
I've always admired AW's beautiful and elegant football but I've previously stated that his tactics are probably figured out. We haven't evolved much from nearly a decade ago. The door needs to be shown. However, our second leg performance against Bayern and the cocks today made me challenge the above. We played like men out there. We weren't the usual softies that broke us against City and Pool. We were determined and the boys weren't afraid to become physical. Koscielny made every jump and tackle. Our midfielders hustled back. Sometimes, football doesn't have to be pretty. Sometimes, it does boil down to the hustle. I hope this is an attribute that we can display consistently - meaning, I hope it wasn't just our boys holding onto dear life.
Thanks. Tbh from here it doesn't seem to be that much different from my usual work, but I'll take it.
A video tribute from a number of Ex Arsenal players. Good stuff. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...aman-Co-pay-tribute-boss.html#v-3368463110001
i'll quite happily have wenger stay for a few more seasons, hopefully making up for this very dry period in the process. martinez is my choice for the next manager.
Even if we don't win it, I don't want Arsene out. Don't care if it's an emotional decision, I'm human we don't use logic often. The only reason I want him to leave is when he retires, never the sack.
Nice article on Wenger with a lot of quotes and details from Dixon. It amazes me the amount of respect and affection that most of ex Arsenal players have for Arsene. I cant recall any player having a bad word about him. Even the ones who left with bad blood, the Ade, Nasri etc never miss a chance to praise him. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/mar/21/arsene-wenger-1000-games-lee-dixon-arsenal
