$2 Beers for the home opener... at least there's that. So there will a ton of drunk fans that want to run the Front office out of town on a rail. Good plan.
If Portland learned anything from watching us play Chivas, we can expect them to shut down Duka and Nyarko on the wings and force everything through the middle because we have no players capable of maintaining possession through traffic. Portland keeps the pressure on a very breakable back line while we default into desperate long ball counter attacks.
I don't like our chances against Portland. We definitely need Magee for this one, hopefully Joya starts and Yallop was able to see that after Joya was inserted last week we actually had something that resembled a midfield. If we play them with the Chivas lineup it will be a blood bath.
Our chances of winning are essentially zero. A close loss or a miracle tie provided by the largesse of the replacement refs is about as much as we can hope for. Yes, it is that bad.
One thing MLS had taught me is there is no sure thing. As good as Portland was last year it does not mean they will repeat that success this year, I think the odds are against us but a win by any team on any given day against any mls opponent just doesn't surprise me.
You are right that there is a great deal of parity in the league and "On any given day..." Still: 1. We are one of the worst teams in the league and they are one of the best 2. We have never had any sucess in portland 3. It is their home opener 4. We seem to suck on turf 5. Looking at the likely starting 11 for both teams, I would take their starting 11 (even dropping Magee and all of his nuts, given his level of fittness at this point in the season; Johnson vs Ricketts is a wash) There is a saying in poker that if you don't see the fish at the table then you are the fish. I think we are the fish at present. This is a match where they are thinking they can get a couple of goals and then play some of their subs. Yes, it is that bad. Go Fire
1. It's MLS and it's early, who knows? 2. They've played there twice only 3. They opened up at home against Philly last week 4. I'll give you that they suck on turf 5. Johnson is better than Ricketts Portland is the favorite, stealing 3 points would be great. Forcing a draw would be more realistic.
Well, "When mommy loves daddy (or daddy loves daddy, depending on one's family), sometimes..." Yeah, you're right. It can't be explained. That scene was damned funny, in 1980.
Yes, it's not a sure thing that he'll be better than Sega but consider this, in 2 games that he's played last year he's looked better than Sega and we've won both (RedBalls and KC). Jumper had an assist in the RB game and a game winning goal in the KC game. Kid deserves a chance is all I'm saying. If Sega was playing like he did in 2007/2008 this conversation would not be happening.
Well he played CB vs. KC, I think that is a better position for him. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/chicago-fire-sporting-kansas-city/index/spielbericht_2361157.html But we will see, if not there is the rooky we drafted, he is a RB but Palmer can play LB, in case Segares struggles and Jumper can't fill in his shoes. We do have options, not sure how good they will be, but they are there.
Agreed. I don't think Amarikwa will get the start but he is clearly the second best forward on this team. What I like about him is his tenacity and confidence. The kid never quits he plays hard until the last whistle, he doesn't seem to be intimidated by anyone and most importantly he can score goals.
