Also funny how everyone was talking low finishing percentage from Bruin and he starts out at 100% early on. His movement was very good on that off the ball run for the second goal and the third goal was all him as well. It's a good start, but the back line for NE is a little depleted right now. I want to see him do this against a stronger defense now.
I want to see both Giles and Will that they can score against the best teams in MLS (NY, LA, KC etc) and in big games. Giles went quiet in last years playoffs.
The team played aggressively and played well. It was a fun game to watch. Lots of nice new things, like the tv screens in the concourses and the actual real-life Dynamo souvenir cups. We've never ever had those before. And my name on my seat. Awesome! Also the fireworks show was one of the best I've ever seen. The only negative was the PA guy. I know people complained about the old guy, but this one was worse. When we got to our seats, we heard him say "tonight's Domino game" and it only got worse after that. He could not pronounce anything in Spanish, he butchered half the names during their intros, and at halftime he said that guy was playing for a "nifty eight inch tv." I hope the old guy will be back next week. And anybody else think it's funny Westside was the only guy that got the card at his seat with the warning about harassing gays and minorities?
My only concern was that Corey was getting caught every once in a while, which led to a couple of NE opportunities.
Like I said over on the MLS boards, they only way he was scoring that was if he was wearing a Honduras NT jersey.
Horst had a great match. He needs to build from that and tighten up as well. I liked what I saw, but it's only 90' into the season. I can't rate him yet. That goes for almost everyone. Let's see the replicate their performances.
Said on here over the past couple of weeks that Horst is going to look a fantastic acquisition once he gets his feet under him. Was huge last night. Also said Barnes is going to have a great season. He is in much better shape than last season, is faster, looks more comfortable in the forward position. Equal time: I also said Bruin was going to have a poor start to the season. That said, I thought it was a tale of two halves for him. Great in the 1st half, tried to do a bit too much in the 2nd half. He is best when he plays like he did in the 1st half - get in good spots and finish. 2nd half he tried to show off his dribbling skills a few times and that did not work well (won't mention the 1 on 1 with the keeper, those things happen). Across the board, though, I won't get too excited over 1 match. The Revs were awful, Farrell and Ngyuen were missing, Goncalves and Tierney were playing hurt. Their back line was a discombobulated mess. They looked as bad as D.C. United did last season.
Chronicle reporting it was a "record crowd?" Have they added seats or something? How can it be a record if they claimed many sell outs in the past? Was last night "solder outer" somehow? And it did indeed look like an actual sell out last night. There were empty seats here and there but I didn't notice any of the big empty blocks that were so obvious in previous "sell out" crowds.
Concession and beer lines are still far too long. Need more mobile vendors and a few more points of sale. There is a limit of how well you can staff for the surge but they seem to make it hard on themselves to handle what they have.
My wife commented off the bat that Barnes looked 15 lbs lighter-and it showed. As for Casio-they moved the benches out wider so I was literally behind the bench and heard the conversation. They kept checking the knee for stability and I heard a quick exchange asking about a pop? These aren't good indicators. But we won't know anything until he has a MRI-if they feel like he needs one. The replay looked like it was non contact and that the knee turned inward. the cards also had the the words to Forever Orange-like people needed the words to that song. I mean it has so many different lyrics and all.
This was horrible-dammit we need those member only beer skipping lines. I missed 15 mins of the match with 5 PEOPLE! in front of me to get a bottle of water. Ridiculous.
It really was bad last night. New fans and new workers apparently. People clogging up lines trying to decide between a Dr Pepper and a Coke and vendors not aware that the price was the same either way!!! I'm the politically correct guy around here, so I won't call people stupid...OH hell yes I will! There were a lot of stupid people on both sides of the counters last night!!
Y'all know they are no beer lines in the east bud light center circle club. And no bathroom line either.
Not to say that you are wrong by any means, but it was bigger than that. Look at the scoreboard. The rest of east got slaughtered last night (except Columbus). Even Philly couldn't manage to get out with three points. If Chicago fails to get the win, the first week of the season more or less becomes a six-point week for us.
Seriously, it's only "orange, we are orange, forever we are orange" repeated a million times, but I was walking out of a game last year and some ladies were talking about that song they really like but they didn't know the words. They were thinking the Spanish word for orange was like French, and the song was in Spanish. The first time I heard it I was with a Mexican guy and we both thought they were saying "jugadores, queremos jugadores" (players, we want players). Made no sense. So the words could help. They do put the words on the scoreboard, but they go something like "orange, we are orange, Kroger, right store, right price."
