Shipp and Joya are stars by midseason, both having earned starting jobs as a result of our startling early season success.
I do not expect us to start the season as poorly as we did last year. I also don't expect the end result to be much better unless our patented panic player acquisition in July is another Mike Magee. I do expect us to spend the season looking like fools in the new shirt.
I hope so. I'm hoping these kids prove to be the real deal, and we can start to unload overpaid old guys still on the roster (Pause, Rolfe, Nyarko, Segares and eventually Soumare when a new replacement can be found). Pause is simply ready for retirement, the others might still have something left, but their salaries are a large part of why we are in the budget situation we are. My preseason prediction will always be Supporters Shield. I see no reason we can't win it. Playoffs will always be bare minimum. Anangono has a 10 goal season
I'm betting Joya will be first to secure a starting role. There is no drop off between him and Alex , and Joya seems to have a much bigger upside. The biggest difference is MLS gameday experience. If Joya demonstrates he is mature enough in subsititions it will be only a matter of time.
Twellman and Lalas preview the Fire season.... and give a shoutout to Blanco http://espnfc.com/video/espnfc/video/_/id/1735910/league/usa.1?cc=5901
I predict we will end the season either in 5th or sixth and barely getting in or being out of the playoffs. Magee's nuts can only go so far even in a full season and though i like a lot of the other pieces I would feel like we are contenders for it all if we had a Blanco or at least a Mila at CAM. I am not a fan of the central defensive changes. I just do not think we have gained in either depth or skill but only added greater age and more outlay of money. I cannot even confidantly predict Anangano will get ten goals.
I'm guessing more like 5-6 goals, assuming he stays as the starter, which I don't think he should be.
They are going to play counter attacking football, solid defence in the beginning, goals will be scarce. IMO it will be down to Shipp and Joya's performances as Hertha said. Can't say where they'll place cause i don't know how good the big change teams will do. CJ in charge by midseason next year possibly.
So we will be like DC United last year, SUCK in the regular season and win the the USOC. At least we will qualify for the CCL in 2015.
I just said that they would win the open cup this season. I never base probability on past outcomes, especially those of other teams
