Twellman and Lalas preview the season... mentions PV's love for 4th officials http://espnfc.com/video/espnfc/video/_/id/1735672/league/usa.1?cc=5901
Young, Spanish, left sided midfielder/left back linked to SKC. http://futbolmls.net/2014/03/04/toni-podria-acompanar-a-oriol-rosell-en-sporting-kansas-city/
I really like the sound of that, although a total of 6 goals and 3 assists in 95 matches is not terribly impressive. I expected this based on his preseason minutes and performance, but I also expected Gabeljic to be signed. Could still happen, I suppose.
Eh, he has played LB mostly. Wonder what this would mean for Sinovic, or if Toni would play in the midfield for us...
No, he has played left back only recently. Until this season, he was a left midfielder/winger. That versatility is one reason why this seems plausible.
Who am I missing? http://www.sportingkc.com/players 1. Besler 2. Bieler 3. Collin 4. Duke 5. Dwyer 6 .Ellis 7. Feilhaber 8. Gardner 9. Gruenebaum 10. Jerome 11. Joseph 12. Kempin 13. Kronberg 14. Lopez 15. Martinez 16, Medranda 17. Myers 18. Nagamura 19. Olum 20. Opara 21. Palmer-Brown 22. Peterson 23. Rosell 24. Saad 25. Sapong 26. Sinovic 27. Zizzo 28. Zusi Gabeljic and Schmetz aren't signed at this time.
I'd heard about this yesterday morning and couldn't find any sources at the time. Now looking around Spanish media there are a number of sources linking him with a move. The one part in many of the articles that is causing me pause is that they say he has a number of offers from MLS teams. Which I guess is possible if he has a number of DP offers.
I should probably know this, but is there a deadline where clubs have to release unsigned players? Or could a player theoretically be on trial with a club indefinitely whilst never being signed?
The later although it's not like KC is holding them here. Players may be asked to stick around after they're told they won't be offered a contract right now
I'm honestly very surprised that Gabeljic hasn't been offered a contract yet. Peter seems to love him, he has some quality skills, and is mostly upside. Who knows. I for one hope to see him on a more permanent basis here with the club.
http://www.thedailywiz.com/2014/3/7/5480662/heineman-fuels-more-spanish-player-speculation Bottom of that article has some talk on why we haven't signed him or Schmetz
The offseason is obviously over, but it looks like I am finally getting my wish for a competent left-footed winger with the rumored loan of Toni Rodriguez from Celta de Vigo in Spain. His goal and assist numbers are not very impressive, and who knows whether he is anything close to "Sporting fit." Still, it will be interesting to see how this affects playing time for Sapong, Zizzo, Saad, and Peterson. Maybe there will be more games with Zusi and Feilhaber together in the midfield after Benny's solid box-to-box shift on Saturday.
Hoping this is the beginning of the end of Gardner! The kid can play LB too and has done so this season (11 starts, 1 sub, 2 assists) from the LB position this year. Solid developmental option especially with the way Vermes asks is fullbacks to attack!
Not likely, unfortunately. Gardner is a "Vermes guy," someone with marginal talent but lots of MLS experience who works hard in practice and on the field. We re-signed him over Bessone after last season, even though the latter was on the bench for the last couple of playoff games.
