I was just thinking the other day, as a new resident of the Wilmington area and a soccer fan, that the team needed a more modern logo. Especially considering possible affiliation with a MLS team. Having your brand splashed across mlssoccer.com is a huge deal for such a small market team, and having a fresh look to go with the new affiliation is spot on. By dropping the "Professional Soccer" banner and adding a shield that says FC is, in my opinion, bigger league marketing. I am very impressed with the new owner so far. New downtown office location, updated name, and new logo. Hopefully the game time experience and the online game streams will be presented with the professionalism the brand/logo implies.

    I love it.

    Thoughts?

It is a decent upgrade. Not spectacular, but an upgrade, although the addition of FC is just a bit trite now.

I'm still partial to the old logo (mainly because it's simpler) but I guess I'll get used to the new. Marketing-wise, the more important change should be to upgrade game streams from Legion which over the past couple of years have been terribly embarrassing. Probably less important to most, I'm glad to see the return of the Hammerheads traditional Carolina blue and white striped jersey that Coach Irving mentioned in the Star-News last week.

Game day atmosphere has been getting better over the years and although I don't expect a lot of changes to Legion, I'd at least like for the canned music to go away.

Not sure why they removed the story from their site, but here is another.

Please tell me they don't play music during the game like they do in Rochester... That's such a turn off and so bush league.

They do and hopefully will not do it this year. Mr. Rudisill (beloved ex-owner of the Hammers) was strangely fond of "YMCA" for some reason. The speakers on the Firm (East) side don't really work because of problems earlier mentioned on this site (although repaired, the volume is turned very low) and if the guys on the West side would join in, then management may take the hint and drop the music altogether.

I think a downtown office location was a very smart move. I don't mind the logo change but there is something to say for tradition and we have had several changes at this point. I agree FC is better than Professional Soccer. As for the the game time experience...well that is the one thing we have been doing right since 1997!

I just found out about this.

Personally, I wouldn't call a new logo a rebrand per se. I mean, it's the same name, same colors, just a new shield. And to be honest, you guys had one of the better logos in the league.

That being said, this is a freakin' sweet new logo.
