There's been a few players over the past few years who have signed some sort of hybrid player/coach contracts which may work here, especially if he's only expected to play a minor role.

The LA Galaxy have signed quite a few players near the end of the careers then moved them quickly into coaching roles, and used their experience to help bring along young players in similar positions, so it can be a very good thing if the player embraces that role.

FC Dallas did that with Hernandez and that worked out well, huh?

True, but I'm not sure how much that really relates, given the conflict with Hyndman, and we all know his track record of ushering people out the door who don't fall into line.

That might be ironic if they make Luccin a coach because the thought is Hernandez went sideways after they forced him to be only a coach because of his injuries and then they signed Luccin who had more injuries as his replacement. Maybe that was one of those committee decisions.

Hitman, this is really weird, and I am sorry if I have already said this, but your avatar actually causes me not to read your posts sometimes. It is just kind of vaguely disturbing. I don't know the back story.

But I know I want to read the next one just so I don't see your avatar.

Weird on me. But since I am going to get back into the painful exercise of rooting for this team, just wanted to put that up front.

A couple of off the cuff reads I get:
Clavijo announcing that we will go 4-3-3 is evidence that OP has been pulling the strings behind the scenes from the point of FC's announcement. And, for that reason alone, I also will not be stunned to see the rumored Uruguayan forward in hoops. That would all make perfect sense. Also, apparently any hope of getting El Torito back at lower wages seems unlikely.

And, as for Hitman's creepy avatar, I agree. It makes me speculate a lot of weird tragic stuff about Hitman, and out of respect to that possibility I have not previously commented. If it is just to be edgy or cool, I would much prefer for Hitman to use BEIN's Kay Murray as his avatar.

Just curious, the team heads to the UAE in a few days, are there any schedules for that preseason or maybe any possible friendlies? I'd wake up at 4 to watch Dallas play a UAE team.

Ha... I'd forgotten about it after all this time... Ya, it was odd. It's a pic of a guy who blew his nose off in a robbery gone wrong... Maybe this is more fitting...

Philadelphia Union secure loan deal with purchase option for Maurice Edu. There goes that option. Do we even have a GM?

Can't judge until we see who FCD acquire. They may even wait until after WC as a lot of player contracts are up then. Remember also Philly traded with DC to be first in the allocation list.

The Loyd situation should be interesting. Being forced to stay after making his desire to leave known makes it kind of weird. He is super reliable, but can you have faith in someone in a critical position when they've stated they don't want to play for you?

"Forced to stay"? Wasn't he out of contract, not on an option?

We have usually found some South American gem at a bargain price. Clavijo is supposed to have his connections. Oscar too for that matter. Dario still has people's phone numbers. I'd be willing to bet that history will repeat itself.

Safe money will be that any DP the club signs will not be a "known" superstar, stateside. HSG will always play this frugally, going for the best bang for the buck... And to be fair, that's not a bad strategy when you're spending money on a lot of unknowns. DF10 worked out very well, until he broke his ankle.

yeah, Zach was not forced to stay. He was out of contract and he came to terms with the club on a new one. I'm sure he could have founder suitors for his services, but I don't think he wanted to. He's a family-first dude with roots in the region.

UPDATE: Clavijo claims the club will sign a box to box midfielder in next 10 days. Did not specify if it would be a DP.

After reading this is not the big signing most of us are hoping for (and it could be re-signing Ferreira as he fits the backup to Diaz and can push him quote). Does that mean there will be money left to spend later on another position? Hope they have enough defensive type mids that if Luccin gets hurt again the season isn't over.

Clavijo is definitely sending mixed messages on Ferreira...he said early in the week that they had not spoken to him.
