People, help me out. I swear I wasn't drunk nor smoking weed, but while watching the All-star game I swear I saw something that said ABC was going to broadcast this comming Sunday's match between the Galaxy and Metrostars. However, it says nothing about this on MLSnet nor on ABC's website. I didn't tape the All-star game so I can't go back and watch it to make sure I wasn't seeing things. Did anyone else see the same advertisement? Anyone have info if this game is going to be televised on ABC? Thank you.
Sunday 6pm ET? Common sense dictates that wouldn't happen. East Coast affiliates show their news at 6, usually. ABC's schedule shows X-Games highlights at 4pm, but nothing else that day (I'm sure they're showing something). I didn't hear it, but I do have the tape. However, I'm not inclined to go back and check because it's pretty far-fetched. Unless they moved the game to 4pm ET, then it's only slightly nearer-fetched.
My first thought was that the ESPN/ABC affiliation just did some cross-promotion. But I still don't think ESPN is even showing a sunday game at 6. I have noticed, though, that the Galaxy has been running their ads nationally, rather than regionally, so it could have been one of those spots.

I almost got caught by the same thing. JP/Eric started with the televised game this week, than ran down the rest of the MLS games next weekend. The phrasing he used made it sound, at first, like he was talking about a televised game on Sunday, but he was just listing the games that were going to be played.
FWIW, the cup is not hallucinating. I saw the same thing and not only did J.P. say it, there was also an ABC graphic along with the listing of Sunday's game on the screen. It struck me as odd that ABC (not ESPN2) would be airing this, which forced me to notice that it was indeed an ABC logo. Those top-notch production folks that ABC/ESPN assign to soccer broadcasts are a tribute to their industry aren't they? Also, nice post-game show guys...
Thank you Jam Econo! For a moment there I was starting to question my own mind. I remember seeing the ABC logo as well and I remember thinking how cool it would be to have a regular season game again on ABC. I also started to question it because I remember seeing the time was 6pm ET and I thought that that was going to be in a prime time slot and I couldn't believe it. I guess I'll wait until the Sunday paper comes to check out my local listing. Also, I agree on the quality of their post game show. All I saw were the same commercials run twice. Oh, the agony of defeat.
I have it. It's late in the game. I'm trying to make a vidcap but my software is acting up. Dammit. Basically, the box itself that listed all of this weekend's games had an ABC Sports bug in the upper left corner of it because it was an ABC Sports production that it was appearing in. I can see where it would look at first glance like a game would be ON ABC Sports if it was in that box, but the first one was the ESPN2 game, which was duly noted, and the others didn't have a network designated. If you looked up and caught it out of context, you might think it said that the Metros/LA game would be on ABC. There were other box graphics that had the MLS East and MLS West logos on them, and using the ABC Sports logo probably could have and should have been avoided just for the confusion factor. Would have been better with an MLS logo. But that's live TV. ABC mis-spelled "Chevrolet" on the "Chevrolet Man of the Match" for like three straight World Cup Qualifiers last time around. Attention to detail.
Here's the photographic evidence: First promo: They thought it would be a good idea to plug that the game would be on ESPN2, which it was. But since that slide was followed immediately by this one: And then: And finally: Again, out of context, I could see the confusion. My VCR didn't tape the sound for some reason, so I can't tell you what JP said, but I think it's unlikely he intimated any games would be on ABC.
Yeh, that was it. Thanks Kenntomasch for looking that up, at least I know I'm not going crazy, I just know I don't pay enough attention.
