As much as I dislike Teo, I still think the WC spot is still his to lose. If he has a great season at River, no way will he lose his spot.

Now more than ever we will depend on Pekerman's experience. I started to look deeper into our WCQ experience:

    Colombia had 27 goals

Falcao was responsible for 9 goals. 3 were PKs. So "in-play" goals were 6. Same as Teo. James was the next best scorer at 3. Overall we had 10 different players score throughout the campaign.

In comparison, the other qualified teams:
Argentina and Uruguay ended with 35 goals scored by 8 players. Ecuador with 20 goals had Benitez and Felipao score 11 of the 20 . Only Chile @ 13 players had more players score during the wcq 2014 campaign.

Just trying to shine a light here that this team that's been built for the past 4 years is resilient and can spread the responsibilities given the big absence.

Sure, how idiotic it may sound we really don't know if this is gonna hurt the NT until after the games are played. There are tonnes of examples with players that has turned up out of nowhere to replace some star and stolen the show. Goycochea someone mentioned earlier....Schillaci in italia -90 came on as a sub first game and turned out top scorer, Vialli who they expected to be the big star didn't do much. It would be worse if James had gotten injured.

Jackson has to man up and show people he can carry the load. If not there are other options. Thank goodness we have depth.

Yep. Ballack's injury lead to Muller's inclusion and a team molded around Ozil. Only in this case, Falcao will return to the starting 11 the moment he's healthy enough.

It's likely that Balanta wont make the 23 man roster for the WC but watching him today I realize he is VERY similar to E. Valencia. He can easily slide into a Defensive MF position. RP used him today primarily as a stopper. But unlike most clunky stoppers he has a lot of confidence once he gains possession.
