I haven't seen Friedman play but I personally dont rate Barson all that highly. He isn't very good going forward and not very athletic. He does have good but not great defensive skills. I am not sold on him as a starter in MLS.
Some of those guys will play in Dayton. We're also not carrying 4 goalies. It's unclear yet if the players loaned to Dayton will have to be on the 30 man roster. If the league wants to do proper development, they should still be our property but not count against the 30. But you never know how MLS will do things. My guess is we bring in at least 3 more players and possibly up to 5.
Barson probably is the more cerebral player Friedman gets up and down the field better and certainly serves a better ball from the outside. Neither are as athletic a player as the two you would assume the Crew would have tried to homegrown if the academies had started a year or two earlier, Sarkodie/Morrow, or the two freshman going on sophomores Woods/Bumpus.
Barson>Friedman. Barson is much stronger than Friedman. Friedman is marginally better on the ball. Both are smart players. Barson is the better defender.
Gregg said they're targeting someone that could start some guys this year. To me, that comment and our draft position seem to make the most sense if we're drafting a CB. The draft is deep at the position, and we're expecting MP to be gone part of the year, so we're going to need another starter there.
sitting in convention center next to a clown who's all excited about the free box lunch. no Crew fans in sight. but the fans section is pitifully small. 19 team tables plus three TV stands leaves very little room. well, except for this douchebeg who apparently never had a cardboard sandwich before. i hope he chokes on hos Fritos.
As with both....it depends who you take. I think there is a fair amount of talent there for the taking. Most teams already have established CMs in their squad leading up to draft day. I wouldn't expect anyone we draft to step in and start on day 1 but would hope they develop into a starting-caliber player sometime during their rookie season. Dillon Powers was taken 11th (2 spots above Finley) last year and seemed to have adjusted nicely.
In the convention center sitting next to a guy who can't keep his eyes off my lunch. Did he skip breakfast? I'd share, but this sandwich is kind of tasty.
I feel like Adam Jardy confirmed earlier this week those players would count against the 30-man roster.
I trolled you Bill, sorry. I'm not there. I'm in my basement watching on TV getting ready to enjoy some delicious leftovers.
According to my computer clock it's 12:14 as I'm writing this, but I wanted to preemptively say the Crew made a huge mistake drafting that no-talent hack they just selected. What a waste of a draft pick. What a bunch of dopes.
I think the MLB draft is also an afternoon affair. Only the most diehard baseball nerds care about guys who will be in the minors for the next 2-3 years.
You get the feeling eventually they'll let more younger guys in and the MLS draft will become similar.
Any truth to the rumor that Crew will abstain from selecting players today because of the newly announced partnership with FC Al Shamal?
