NO, but you know how many of those players that are running to Mexico or Europe will stay if they can earn or have the hope to earn $ 500K on MLS teams.......

Perhaps. But those players aren't available to the Union, and even if they were would probably cost more in allocation money + cap space than what a DP spot costs in cap space.

Realistically speaking though, yeah, I would think that if the Union were willing to budget $1.2 million a year to buy and pay for a CM, they could go find a better ones than Edu outside of MLS.

I get the impression that most coaches go into the draft looking for the players who were hot at the combine rather than focusing on what a player has done over his career. Especially if they are coming out of a good program, they should have faced decent competition enough times to be on solid footing. The big exceptions would be those players from lower divisions or small schools who don't start off on an equal footing.

Really? Because from what I've read people have said overwhelmingly that they are trustworthy...

We need some body to attack and feed the strikers and Xavi still one of the best and if they sign him this year I'm all for that, but if they wait even one more year, NO......

Its not actually legal to approach a player under contract, of course Xavi wouldn't say that we've done so.

And yes, I'm just trying to delude myself into thinking this still might happen...

Anytime you're in the midst of a story, choosing one's words carefully is important. For those of us on the outside, then parsing those words can be a little frustrating. But, I always think about the Ben Bradlee quote from All the President's Men. It is helpful to remember that often this types of answers are "non-denial denials" and hence have no real meaning at all. It all depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is. Is NYRB talking to Xavi right now? Maybe not. But perhaps they have inquired and been given a number they are considering. Xavi may have knowledge have that that he doesn't want to divulge, but are they talking or have they talked to him directly? As it was noted above, it is unlikely they would have before Barca give permission.

BTW, Chicago draft Marco Franco with the 13th pick. He's the 2nd RB taken after Eric Miller was drafted 5th by Montreal.

And the winner is... Chris Duval, D out of Wake Forest. He appears to be an outside back.

MLS.net says he's a right back. So, yes, a need pick.

With the other second round pick we selected Eric Stevenson, Midfielder from Akron

    http://www.mlssoccer.com/players/eric-stevenson

Apparently he's a wide player. Appears to be very skillful, good in 1 v 1 situations, good distance shot and good at cutting in.

    Interesting.

heard he can also play left back, so we just need to teach him to defend some and he can long-term project as an overlapping LB
