So if the Lions lose, Packers win, and Cowboys lose -- the Eagles-Bears game this evening will have no bearing on the playoff situation. Eagles will have clinched the NFC East and the NFC North will come down to Bears-Packers next week regardless of whether the Bears win or lose tonight. In that scenario, it would be interesting to see whether Trestman rests the starters for next week. Of course, I'm hoping that the Packers lose and then the Bears would be able to clinch with a win in Philly.
First and Goal from the 3 and you pass the ball 4 times. Ugh… Leroy Hoard, where are you when we need you?
Maybe this will come back to bite me but..... Romo misses Dez Bryant open in the end zone on third down, Cowboys get only a field goal to narrow deficit to 23-17.
I'm just about ready to recant everything I've ever said about Cam Newton. That was one heck of a winning drive.
Packers+Lions Lose=Bears clinch with win Packers lose+Lions win=Bears must win to hold 1st. If they lose, the Packers and Bears both need to win week 17 and Lions lose to clinch. Packers+Lions win=Bears need to win just to not fall behind the Lions. Packers win+Lions lose=Bears game tonight a bit meaningless for them Now with the Cowboys win, the Eagles game is a bit meaningless for them. They would just be playing for playoff seeding.
I was following ESPN's Gamecast and saw that they were on the 1 with 1:25 left, took a false start no huddle. I went to the kitchen, returned and the game was over. WTF happened?
The Packers were actually at the PITT 31 with 1:25 to go. Here are the last 5 plays of the game. 1st and 10 at PIT 31 (Shotgun) M.Flynn pass short left to J.Nelson ran ob at PIT 24 for 7 yards (L.Timmons). 2nd and 2 at PIT 24 (Shotgun) M.Flynn pass short middle to A.Quarless to PIT 5 for 19 yards (L.Timmons). 1st and 5 at PIT 5 J.Starks right tackle to PIT 1 for 4 yards (W.Allen; C.Heyward). 2nd and 1 at PIT 1 (No Huddle, Shotgun) PENALTY on GB-D.Barclay, False Start, 5 yards, enforced at PIT 1 - No Play. 2nd and 6 at PIT 6 (No Huddle, Shotgun) M.Flynn pass incomplete short left to J.Boykin. After false-starting on 2nd and 1, the Packers took the 10-second run-off but only managed to run one play with 10 seconds left.
I disagree. The Bears and Packers are both good teams. The Bears are a playoff team that I think can win 1 game(would take a lot going right to win 2, doubt 3 is even possible unless they avoid Seattle). Same for Packers, except I think the Pack can actually win the Superbowl. Unlucky for both teams to lose key guys like Cutler, Rodgers, Briggs, and Matthews.
That's why they aren't good teams, but rather mediocre to decent. The division in general is bad due to choking and consistently sub-par performing by everyone.
If the Seahawks lose Russell Wilson and Sherman they're no longer contenders, if the Broncos lose Manning they're no longer contenders, if the Patriots lose Brady they're no longer contenders, etc... You can't let injuries determine if a team is bad or not. It's bad luck.
Take both of your starting tackles out for the entire season, and sprinkle a few other O-line injuries in while you're at it. Take arguably your best receiver out for nearly all of the season, and one of your other top 3 guys out for a few weeks as well. Take your starting TE out for much of the year (and sadly it looks like his career). Take both of your starting OLBs out for a sizeable chunk of the season, along with your star rookie CB from last year. Take one of your starting ILBs, and his backup, and his backup again out for much/all of the year having lost the original starter before all of those guys to free agency over the summer. Then on top of all that, take possibly the best QB in the game out as well for half the season, and get back to me. --- It was not great management by us at the end (we should have let the Steelers run in on first down and saved the TO as well), but was even worse on their end. We had 1 TO and there was 1:28 left. Kneel takes it to 1:26 and we spend that TO. Another kneel takes it to 0:44 and 3rd down. Wind it down and use your final TO with about 5 seconds left, kick the 20-25 yard FG, and there is 1 or 2 seconds left. Squib is to one of the bigger guys on the kickoff, or out of the end-zone, or even out to the side and concede to the 40 yard line. Deep protection and 60-80yd Hail Mary if GB are even able to get that off, game over. At least the Eagles are keeping this alive for us so far!
If Seattle plays like that in the playoffs it will be a quick exit. I just hope they manage to beat the Rams and get home field next week but I am nowhere near as confident as I was after the declawing of the Saints a few weeks ago.
