I was looking at Porto de Galinhas, but it looks a little too far from Recife. I'm beeing searching on AIRBNB and have actually found some decent spots to the south of Boa Viagem in a town called Jaboatão dos Guararapes
For those more familiar with Recife, how long would you guess it will take from the stadium to Boa Viagrem/airport?
Recife experts, Whats your thoughts of staying in Olinda.....compared to boa viagrem? Looking for sone culture, nightlife, walking around, etc... BV looks like high rise apartments along the beach....Olinda like an artists community...
Count me in as one who is also staying in Galinhas. I missed an opportunity in Olinda (looks very cool). OTOH, I'm booking a lot of cancellable places in the event Match is hosing things up right now.
I am only finding one bus company that is running between Recife and Natal. My hope is to catch the game on the 23rd in Recife. Wake up early on the 24th get to Natal to watch the game and get back to Recife. Anyone ever hire a driver or have any other insights on getting back and forth in a day ? I really would rather not rent a car and deal with that hassle.
I'd be interested in finding out about this too. Our group is planning on renting a car but if there was a group hiring a vehicle for the one day trip, I would think that would be more convenient and the cost could be spread out over more people.
I am up for hiring a vehicle so you can add +2 to your group if you want to split the cost, I will be there from the 19th so I should be able to find out something by the time the 24th rolls around. As we get closer or if I find out anything more I will PM you.
Boa Viagem is more cosmpolitan/upscale beach while Olinda is more historical (think restored historical houses, churches, etc.) For Boa Viagem, think big high rise apartments and hotels on the beach, high end restaurants and bars, good if you want to lay on the beach and relax. Boa Viagem is thought of as the best "urban" beach in Recife. If you want a traditional high rise hotel on the beach - this is for you. Olinda is a historical old city that has been swallowed by Recife, originally created by the Dutch settlers and has been well preserved. I'd say that it's probably one of the better preserved colonial cities in all of Brazil. Has more of a "small town" feel with most hotels being small "pousadas" - converted colonial houses and such. Also has a number of restaurant/bar options, but most being more small/local. Olinda is up on a hill and does not have a beach to speak of. Either Boa Viagem or Olinda would be the two best places to stay in Recife, just depends what you are looking for. I've visited both and highly recommend.
any news on that new airport they are building in natal? I haven't heard anything other than it may be open for the WC...
There is a chance I booked too many rooms in Natal. It's a great location in Ponte Negra Beach, with breakfast and free wifi. Cost to transfer the room(s) is negotiable in beer for my group of 4 USA supporters. If interested PM me and we go from that point.
There will be an airport with at least one of the two originally planned roads connecting to it. The other road may not be done in time for the cup. The airport is slated to open in early April. The old airport was supposed to turn over to the military but it appears that it will be left as a civilian option until after the World Cup is over. The army just finished the runway at the new airport a couple of days ago. Here's a semi-recent photo of the new airport terminal construction
Hi everyone , I live in recife (Boa Viagem) and i'm seeing you have some doubts about Recife . If is there anything i can help i'll be glad to do it. my english is not perfect but i think i can handle it.
I will be there June 12-16 in Natal and traveling on the 16th towards Recife. Not sure if I will be taking a bus or what. Anyone know the rates on this route? I will be in recife from the 16th to the 24th. Still searching for accomodations for 19-24th in Recife. Im not trying to overspend ($100-$120) per night 2 beds.
Staying in Porto Galinhas as well from 6/23-6/26. Boa Viagrem looks lovely but PG fit my price range a lot better and is giving my girlfriend the type of trip she'd usually sign up for. I'm really excited myself! @Almanza79- Let us know if you find any info on luggage storage. Might be needing to do something similar on the 26th.
The Recife bus terminal, Terminal Integrado de Passageiros (TIP), does have luggage storage at the Guarda Volumes, although I was not able to find much info about Guarda Volumes. This site shows rates but not sure how accurate. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/brazil/the-northeast/recife/transport/other/terminal-integrado--de-passageiros#ixzz2pRMmsSWX A couple of people here suggested I contact my hotel and ask about luggage storage, which I did and my hotel does have secure luggage storage. I think I'm going with this route as of right now. I will contact my hotel closer to my travel date to re-confirm.
Hey everyone. Thanks for all the posts. They have been very helpful. We are planning to stay in Praia De Pipa(just south of Natal) from June 19 - July 5. I've located a few beach locations off the ocean but would love to find a beach front location that sleeps 4. I've looked on... homeaway.com vrbo.com Are there any other websites anyone could suggest? Maybe a local one in Brazil? Thanks for any suggestions in advance
I will also be in Natal on those dates, but will be traveling to Fortaleza on the 16th, as I have Mexico TST tickets. I have been using this website as a reference for bus times and prices, take a look http://www.buscaonibus.com.br/en/timetable/natal/recife?dt=16/06/2014 Prices are in Reals so just divide by half to get a dollar estimate. I say take a bus as it seems to be the cheapest and safest option. As for accommodations, I found a hostel in Olinda for the days I will be there, which is the 19th-24th. I paid ~25$ per night for one bed. I would recommend checking out Olinda hotels/hostels, as it seems to be only a 15 minute cab ride away from the Recife main beach, Boa Viagram.
