What a crap year for DCU (you know, other than snatching another trophy)... what a fantastic year for District Ultras!

I've heard it said (in a mocking manner) that we're a small group, and it's true - we are. Our core is typical of an ultras group, just several dozen people. Our membership is not more than 130 (I think, don't feel like checking), and that's counting LN and SE that support what we do through getting DU membership. I figured I'd recap what this small group has accomplished this year. Imagined what we would do with say... oh I dunno, 2000 members?

-We've done by far biggest amount of quality tifo in North America. That's just a fact. And not just this year, but every year since 2010 (and depending how you look who was in the group at start then every year since 2004 haha). Don't get me wrong, there are few groups out there in MLS putting out amazing stuff, but none as often as we do. Everything that needed to be said in a big way, we said it. Two days to make three section Open Cup championship display? Not a problem. First and last games this year - massive three groups displays spanning 2/3 of loud side. We do not have near numbers and money of large MLS groups yet we step up to them, and really only a few can rightly answer.

-No markup on ticket prices. DC supporter groups get them for $24, we sell them for $24. We do that because even at $24 they are still highest ********in priced supporter tickets in the league and it's frustrating me to no end. That is not working class price, that is not youth price. Trust me it would be awesome to make some markup and not have to relay solely on memberships and merch for financing. It would be pretty cool to not have to watch every penny. But it's far more awesome to have my friends be able to afford coming to games. Even so I am proud that this group has never been in red. We have few grand sitting in the bank and can order 2014 scarves with group, not individual, fronting money. The way it should be. If we start hurting, as a last resort we'll ask for donations, and I'm sure it will be answered promptly (but first I'll get on everyone's nerves by pimping scarves, stickers, shirts and hoodies haha). I seriously didn't think we'd get to this point before 250-300 members.

-For such a small group we've been to a stupid amount of aways, in good numbers. Picture page of our website is a good testament to DU banner flying in other stadiums. We've been to all u23 matches and good amount of academy ones. Those kids appreciate it, they remember it - why do you think Shanosky comes to our section after every game he's on field or bench in RFK. And from our side, that has been some of the most fun this year.

-We did some good amount of charity, United 4 DC luncheon, golf tourneys... things that are important for community, things a proper soccer club should participate in.

-Lastly, all of this is for nothing without fanatical, loud, insane support. No amount of tifo and tailgates and flags and whatnot will ever be worth anything if I don't see people going berserk while we're losing 4:0. And there's been plenty of that this year, both losing (unfortunatelly) and going insane (gloriously). Same song, over and over, for half hour once in a while, just cos we can? ******** yeah :D

I'd like to thank our brothers and sisters in La Norte who stood by us in everything we do for past 4 years, as well as Screaming Eagles who helped with large displays and took upon themselves to organize logistics for all aways, treating DU members same as their own.

A number of our own steped up this year, taking care of tifo, taking care of tailgates, tickets, merch, dealing with FO, charity work... things that are needed for supporter group to run smoothly. Thank you, I mean it. Leadership in DU comes with no perks, just pain in the ass hard work and I am glad there is number of people ready to take this group and claim it as their own.

    See you all soon,
    Srdan
