Maradona, Pele, Garrincha - all these 3 players are easily greater than Messi. Without WC he will not be even equal to them. Paul Gascoigne was one of the most talented british players ever, shame that he had childish mind.

i love the portuguese fans renaissance following their narrow escape in the qualification
At the start of the season, penaldo seemed completely merged in his main role on the team: the penalty taker
a couple of easy counter attacking goals later
fifa re-opens the poll, ronaldo is the best and mysterious is constantly wetting his pants on here
the same fifa that has been supposedly conspiring against him
Fact is: injured Messi still had a better season than Ronaldo.

Injured Messi was nowhere in the first half of this season and had 0,0 involvement in Super Copa, was anonymous against Bayern and in the last Clasico as well. In no way, he has had a better season than Ronaldo.

The fact that Barçelona can't counter-attack properly against bigger teams doesn't mean it's ''easy'', that is inaccurate and a simplification of what the great J. Mourinho has teached us in the past 3 seasons and in the past Clasicos of last season. :)

It's awfully ironic. Cronaldo will cheat his way to Ballon d'Or like he cheats to penalties on the field.

I love how Messi-haters re-write history. Yes, it wasn't a great Clasico for Messi but he was at least equal to Ronaldo in that match. Lets take the opinion of an objective observer... BBC player ratings: http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/24671158

With that said, I actually watched the game a week ago since I didn't watch it all the way through the first time and I'd say both were equally "Meh".

I don't care for either Goal or Bleacher Report. But those were the only other actual websites I found with ratings from the game in addition to BBC. Everyone chillllllax.

BBC has quality documentaries, that doesn't mean they are an ''objective observer''.

More objective than a Madrid/Portugal fan, so their opinion trumps yours and everyone else's in this thread ...

The fact that they forgot to add the assist shows how ''objective'' they really are. Not.

    CRISTIANO RONALDO (FORWARD) - 7
Also, how in hell did Illarra get a lower rating than Jese? Who has had too little play time to get a 7/10 rating. And how did Carvajal get a 7/10 rating while the 1-0 was his fault?

So far the lack of logic..

BocaFan, you say that Maradona played in a time when Gascoigne was a star player for England, but who stars for them during Messi's time? Lampard and Gerrard, both of these combined don't have half the talent of Gascoigne. Should we compare the defenders that Maradona faced against those faced by Messi?

Baresi, Maldini, Costacurta, Tassoti, Bergomi, Ferri, Brehme, Vierchowod, Crippa, Junior, Edinho vs current La Liga defenders?

You talk about that assist like it was some replication of Maradona's second goal at the WC'86 quarterfinals. It had no impact on the match as it was literally Madrid's final touch of that game and it was an easy pass to make as Barca committed everyone forward for some bizarre and unknown reason. Messi basically dribbling out the final 2 minutes of the clock nullified it anyway.

Yet he had 2-3 Barça players when he got the ball and outclassed them with his pace.

Don't pretend as if the score was 3 or 4-0, the goal gave his team hope and if they scored another goal they would have even tied the game.

How so? Are you saying that 0 assists equals 1 assists? LOL

Still going on about the consolation assist? Jeebus.... As Benfica posted, overall their games were both about the same. Messi did other stuff which, yes, are as good as getting an assist. But both were 'meh' in that match.

If you can't beat, claim he cheats. That is always the best way to win a losing argument.

I have to agree with you here. Gascoigne was among the very rare "play maker" type that England could ever produce.

If compared to Gascoigne, Both Lampard and Gerard were nothing nut a very good ONE CLUB player ... (who exploited good in their club best form and style playing for them)

In term of defense? 80's era were the best ever in football history that had produced MOST great DF in TOP all time.

Messi is clearly the best player in the world, but he still is vastly overrated.

by who? and what are things that paid to disrespecting Messi?

In fact it was so EASY to do so ... in a way! If you think some are doing so?

Easy: without Barca team mates, Messi was so exposed and was just good (compared to excellent with Barca) in Argentina shirt ...

    ===============================================
But to be fair and honest, Messi was improving so much in last 10games with Argentina ... (12goals?) since late last year and this year
Before that his GPG was no better than a "normal AM"(<0.35) and he was playing as FW

thats fine, and true, and maybe hes not the best in the world i don't really care, one thing i cant stand is people claim he is nothing special, like.... if he played agains premier league teams he wouldnt be so good.... la liga defenders are horrible... its beacuase of xavi iniesta... hes only played for barcelona... barcelona is a uefa conspiracy... its his hormones... its because blah blah blah blahhhh its annoying

and for the record cristaino ronaldo is an amazing player
okay i typed that up before even reading this...
look im not saying hes the best player ever as some people claim, im not trying to say hes better thatn ronaldo, time will tell and whatever happens, whatever the result, no can deny that he is an absolutely amazing footballer, it looks silly when people try to argue hes not.
