National sports Portuguese newspaper Record (one of the most popular sports newspaper) has made a story on Jose Goncalves with the Revs. Check it out you might need babelfish or google translate its in Portuguese.

I'm learning Portuguese - decided I am learning the native language of every World Cup host country. Russian next. Will give this one a shot. :)

I don't remember exactly, but someone did some digging and found they were in Cyprus. The Tony Taylor part was someone guessing who in that country they might be looking at. I dunno much about the guy, but if they are going overseas to look at players, I would want them to aim higher than a guy like that. An established pro between 24-30 who is at a good club in the top division in a second-tier country, or a mid-low table club (or good 2nd divsion club) in a top-tier league.

Good luck to you! A basic, tourist-level vocabulary is very helpful to have, and definitely scores points with the locals, even if you are butchering their language. I am trying to learn German, now that I work for a German company and will be going there Friday for the 4th time since June. The vocabulary is pretty easy, but the grammar is ugh, challenging. There are way too many verb tenses for me to get my head around. But at least I know how to say "Bitte ich hatte gehn ein beir"

Yeah, the old "i before e, except when you're ordering an alcoholic drink" rule... But even I know that would be der Bär. But in Boston-ese, sure beer can be pronounced bee-uh, which sounds a lot like a large, fur-covered animal

With that salary info I'd take Akpan and/or Cam Weaver and maybe Zakuani although I don't know how he is post leg break.

Just for fun - These would be my list of phone calls. I think any of these players might fit into the Rev system. Neither GK is likely to be the answer, but I think both are competent. Franklin is 28, and would be a significant upgrade over anyone we currently have at right back. O'Rourke is 30; I would see him as a dmid for us. Rosales is 32, but is a really clever player - I'm surprised to see Seattle letting him go. Rolfe, Cooper and Espindola are forwards who are good with their feet and combine well. Akpan seems to have good technique from what little I've seen of him, and is cheap. I thought Zakuani was the face of the Sounders. He would be the fastest player on the Revolution squad if he came over.

Of these, my first choice would be Espindola.

    Thoughts?

I like your choices except for Rolfe, Cooper and Akpan. The rest really just depend on at what salary. The two keepers I'd take at those contracts as well as Espindola and Morales at their current rate. The rest aren't worth that much, though I don't think they're terribly overpaid. Zakuani is a big risk/reward guy. I'm always worried about leg injuries on speedsters, but I think he's technical enough that even if he lost 5% of his speed, he's be valuable.

I'd take Espindola in the 1st stage and Franklin in the 2nd. If not Franklin, I'd take Barklage.

I think they will resign Alston. that said I would be looking at these guys. I think last year figured out that guys that went in the re-entry draft took on average a 30% cut in pay. I am sure Imbongo would love to see Boswell in camp and visa versa! But joking aside he is better than Soares, McCarthy or Barnes and probably anyone they can draft or find overseas. Franklin could mean moving Farrell inside but I am not a fan of that. Pearce over Tierney? Anyone? I'd take that upgrade but that comes at a price. *=my main targets

I'd pass on Akpan,,,,been in the league 5 years and has not even averaged a goal a year...we already have a forward that can't scored and he is a DP!

I know Cooper's been at least somewhat productive everywhere he's been, but isn't it a red flag for anybody else that he can't stick in a place for more than a year or two?

I think his salary had a lot to do with it. 300k isn't a small number. Portland moved him and acquired Kris Boyd as a replacement. NY picked up Fabian Espindola. So he's being replaced with pretty solid players.

If we can sign him for around $200-250k, I'd give him a shot.

Fair enough; I just get a little gun-shy when I see that a player can't establish himself despite decent production. Usually says something about attitude/personality, but not always.

Pretty much my list. Espindola and maybe (emphasis: maybe) Franklin are probably the only 2 I want at their current salary. Actually, Guy too, I didn't really get the need to cut him. Capable of being 3/4 stringer at RB/RM. The rest of the guys I'd probably go for in the 2nd round.

What I've read on general MLS boards from Sounders fans is Zakuani was a shell of his former self this year. Probably a better bet than Davies to take a flyer on and see if he can return to form, but I don't think we're going to be getting the Zakuani that was one of the league's best wingers.

Other note, did we resign Barnes? Don't remember hearing it but he'd be on this list if we wasn't under contract right?

I'd take a roll of the dice on Zakuani later in the second part. Sean Franklin would be a solid target. I'd also consider Espindola or Cooper. Brandon McDonald may also be worth a look, but I'm surprised to see him listed as a midfielder.

it's likely that he either withdrew himself from the draft or the Revs are close to re-signing him to a new deal (or both)

Well, it'd be good news in my book. Also, maybe its just my perception but it seems like there's a LOT more talent in this one than there has been in past years. You could field a pretty decent lineup with the guys available in this draft, which really wasn't true of the last 2 or 3 reentry drafts.
