Maybe it is time to make some changes within the organization. Kreis is loyal to his circle of friends and no one else. I don't see that he will have the same success with NYCFC as he did with RSL. There will be too many egos to deal with and he needs his attention. Let him go and bring Fraser back

I've mentioned before that I think Kreis' philosophy dove-tails very nicely we a smaller market, lower financial resources type team. He does best getting a team to play like a machine and to simultaneously relish and take offence to the under dog role. He needs to have good players that aren't too full of themselves so they buy into the system. Put him in an environment where they will be demanding big name players that have no idea who Kreis is and a lot less willing to buy in to a team concept and a media that will not treat him with kid gloves, and there is a decent chance he is shown the door if he can't have NYFC competetive in their second year. He is a different kind of coach than Arena (who I think would be perfect for the NYFC job), he doesn't manage egos, he gets players to work as a team. This could be bad for both parties if he leaves.

Getting snubbed for coach of the year may stick in his craw badly. We all know if he was coaching this exact team to this exact outcome in New York or LA that Kreis would have won. Portland's press office must be stellar to keep Porter in the argument.

MLS is desperate to promote the brand. They tried the big city teams. That hasn't flown. Right now they're trying the Portland scene - they're on TV constantly, racking up awards left and right in the post-season.

This is about what MLS thinks/hopes they can sell. Marketers are in charge.

    Good point.

I was just going to add that they are simply massaging the dedicated PTFC fan base in an effort to keep them happy--and interested.

The Don sure did some shiatsu to Portland today during the State of the League press conf. today.

In response to Garber, two indy coffee shops are now selling coffee in mugs created from molds of Don Garber's gigantic ears.

He told Red Bull fans in attendance that they needed to go to Portland to see what a real soccer game was like. Maybe not in those exact words but actually pretty close.

I thought there was some interesting discussion of this situation, particularly the influence that the timing of the news story may have on JK's decision, on On Frame.

Yes. They've got the podcast on their website or on iTunes. I listened to the entire show during my 2.5 hour drive home last night (thanks snow!). I thought it was one of the better shows of the year.

Dunny said he called Strauss right after he saw the tweet. He said they're friends and wanted to figure out what is going on. Dunny said this is all coming from NYCFC, and he thinks it's just an attempt to get NYCFC into the news during the lead up to the Cup. He also said that if he were in Jason's shoes, he would be pissed that NYCFC was pulling this at this time. He said this could be the kind of thing where he questions how they would respect him and treat him once he is in the organization, if this is how they are treating him now. It was all speculation, but Dunny felt this could be the kind of thing that could tip Jason towards staying.

Garth was also asked about the report during his ESPN 700 interview. He said no decision has been made, and if one had been made, he would know about it. He wouldn't speculate on what Kreis will do.

Another interesting thing during the OnFrame podcast was the question of who was more valuable to the team. All three of them said that if one had to go, they would pick Garth to stay. They said that the team is where it is due to both Garth & Jason, but that Garth would be the more important piece in building a team going forward. It was a very interesting discussion.

I agree Garth is the more important piece. I don't want to send the message that I don't find Kreis as valuable (he's very) but Garth gives Kreis the pieces he uses. Yes, Kreis is involved, but without the power of Garth (sounds like a horrible rock band) it doesn't happen.

That guy negotiates to get the players we need, and the costs we need, and for the length that is best for the club.

Kreis can't do what he does without the players. Garth is the first step. And if you can't take the first step, then what is the point of the second and third being good?

I'll have to listen. This fits my speculation that the leaks keep coming from the East and might be NY based.

Keep it going NYFC, micro-manage, be total dicks.

I thought our repeated chants of "Jason Kreis, 4 more years!" after the Western Conf. Final would'a sealed the deal, no?!

Agreed. We all saw the crap show that was created by Pastorino. Heck, just look at TFC for a perfect example of what happens when you have a bad GM.

Ha! I was all bundled up so maybe that's why you didn't recognize me. No wonder why you looked at me funny after I complimented your hair... but you played it off like a champ!
