I knew he was going to play well this weekend. He looked amazing for the us earlier this week against Austria, was damn near the best player from both teams. Secondly, Sunderland are complete shit! His dribbling and ability to trick players in the attack has greatly improved, where the ******** did this come from all of a sudden?

Oh no no no no, Evans is not better than Cameron at RB. The RB situation is Klinsmann's biggest blind spot. Klinsmann prefers Cameron as a CB, although Cameron has two or three guys ahead of him at CB. For some reason, that also means that he would rather have him on the bench as a back up CB than as a starting RB.

Evans is a CM/RM who Klinsmann one day decided to play at RB. For some strange reason the team always wins when he plays. He has been exposed more than a few times, but Klinsmann has never said anything about it since the team has been playing well with Evans at RB, even though its clear that Evans can't play RB at the International Level. He isn't quick enough or athletic enough to play RB. I think his days as the USA RB are over. Evans isn't even the best RB on his club team. His teammate DeAndre Yedlin is miles better as a RB and actually plays RB for Seattle each week. Many have been calling for Klinsmann to call on Yedlin, but so far he hasn't called him in.

    Very.

Special enough to not even play RB for the Sounders, he's second choice behind a 20 year old that Klinsmann can also call up. Then again, Yedlin's a rookie so...too soon?

Ha, not really trying to wind people up, just expressing my love for Geoff, and my surprise that he isnt an automatic pick.

He was a solid 6 or 7/10 last season, but this year he has really stepped it up. Benefits of a proper pre season and rest I suppose

Yeah I didn't think you were being bad or anything. I just know some folks are real touchy about that subject. FTR He is an automatic pick, it is just not a given as to where.

The rest really has helped him though and he is growing by the gtame intot he role Hughes wants him to play.

It's a complicated and hard to understand situation that requires a lot of discussion.

Anyway Geoff seems to be improving his crossing recently, which is great news.

Oh yeah, I get that sometimes a poorer player is better for the balance and makeup of the team. Thats why England's wingers are Townsend and Welbeck.

His crossing was a really surprising facet of his game against Sunderland, he must have worked on it. Problem was people now seem to anticipate a poor cross so weren't always in the correct position. That'll come though, if he keeps improving

Don't forgt he is always on the pitch for us, kind of like with you guys last year. It seems his versatility hurts him at times as much as it helps him. In the sense he is one of the few high level players that does not have a position, although I think he would be a most excellent midfielder as a 6 or an 8.

If he continues to play like he has though, an argument could be made for him being maybe one of the top three RBs in the EPL this year.

I asked it in the gameday thread but didn't get much of an answer...what would be Geoff's next step if he keeps playing like this for Stoke for the rest of the season? I know he's 28, but any chance he'll have some nice options? His crossing was his weakness last yr but if yesterday was any indication..watch out.

what is wrong with being an everyday starter for a solid midtable team and a well loved and respected player. Especially when you consider that he was the last guy taken in the draft in a round that no longer exists. If he contiunes on his present form showing it is more than form and true class, then Stoke probably offers an extension and a raise.

I reckon then it would just be a matter of who came calling and offering Stoke a ridiculous amount of money for a RB. Nothing wrong with Stoke, and their footy is looking better all the time. They are a striker or two and a really good midfielder away from top ten and maybe thinking about a Euro spot. Hell if Jon can find the back of the net fonzi keeps a good attitude and Crouchy keeps up his good hold up play they might be a top ten team this year.

Geoff made ESPNFC's Premier League team of the week.

Right-back: Geoff Cameron has started all but one of Stoke's 12 Premier League games this season, and he turned in perhaps his best performance to date against Sunderland. As Gabriele Marcotti points out, the American hasn't been fazed by the transition from Tony Pulis to Mark Hughes and was a constant threat down the right flank. A cute chip helped create the first goal for Charlie Adam and backed up Paul Mariner's theory that Cameron is becoming more comfortable with every match.

Highlights of his performance anyone? On Match of the Day they didn't mention him much.

Which is usually a good thing for a defender, esp. a full-back: made no mistakes & kept his side of the defense quiet.

Huth is injured, so Geoff may play centre back this weekend

It would be ironic if just when the US fanbase (and presumably the USMNT coaching staff) fully came around to the idea of Geoff Cameron as a primary right back option based largely on his club play, he suddenly got his chance at CB at Stoke and made the position his own.

I doubt that will happen, but I find the prospect pretty amusing.

Geoff seamlessly blended into starting XI of a mid-table/upper relegation fodder Premier League. Speaks volumes.

I would hope Stoke keeps him at RB since he's currently in the form of his life and looks real good going forward.
The National team also has option at CB but we badly need a right-back that can push forward and Cameron seems to have developed into one, so I hope he doesn't get moved to CB.

@Sergei_Shtaniuk do you have any info on Huth, I couldn't find anything conclusive he is out for Saturday.

I don't think it is a given Geoff moves to CB with no Huth, but I guess it makes sense. I think it might help to leave Cam at RB and let him be a handful getting forward. Sometimes a good offense can be a defense.
