That is odd. Never heard of him but then I don't follow Mexican futbal anymore. He is from Uruguay. Someone has an odd sense of humor. I think.
Interesting speculation considering that 1. Clavijo has roots in Uruguay. 2. a former Liga MX manager makes a lot of sense for FC Dallas. Nevertheless, hard to think of a worse source than Wikipedia vandalism.
Brian Haynes / Eddie Johnson package? http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1110...die-johnson-sweepstakes-underway?ICID=HP_HN_1
They can't have Johnson and Cooper or Hasli as that would tie up way too much money. Would they cut the cord with Kenny? Of course other issues are what does FCD have to trade (I guess a central defender - GJ back to Washington State? - NO) and forward isn't their biggest position of need (DM is).
Now that Houston has been eliminated, I wonder if Ralston might be a good fit since the timing to come in and have a say before Dec. 1 can happen.
I guess that this is where I point out that the Rookie of the Year and the runner-up were both drafted by Oscar. [sigh] It sucks that we gotta get our asses kicked so thoroughly by former Burn players in Colorado and Salt Lake, but that's the price we gotta pay for ownership's continued efforts to throw the Dallas Burn down the memory hole and to provide a good nest egg for Clark's old coach.
No thanks on Eddie, he has shown too many times that once he gets paid, his drive drops and so does his productivity.
Also a blurb on wasted or maybe not 2nd round pick Ryan Hollingshead who maybe reconsidering his career.
Guille probably won't leave Lanus until his contract expires at the end of next June--they made the Libertadores. I could see Clavijo taking charge of the team until then, if this happens. I think GBS is worth waiting for--I think he could bring some very interesting players to the club, as well. And make a huge impact on Mauro Diaz.
I suspect that they're waiting for someone off of Salt Lake or Kansas City's benches. If they were looking at GBS or somebody from one of the 17 other teams not playing for the championship, they could've reached a deal already.
Just deducing, and not because I have any knowledge, but the longer that time goes on and the more roster decisions continue being made….. it does seem that the new manager is already receiving a paycheck from HSG.
Not sure I understand the allure of Cassar. Great guy and all, but can anyone point to me what he's personally accomplished as a coach that makes him a good option for Dallas? I ask that admitting I know very little about his coaching career other than his assistant spell at RSL.... If that's all he has I'd rather stick with Ferruzzi who's been doing this, in Dallas, longer.
I don't claim to be expert here, but when you say "spell", I'll translate that as the assistant on one of the strongest, most stable coaching staffs in MLS. On a team that has won a Cup and competed in the playoffs every year that Cassar has been w/ RSL. Also he has been called up on his own merits by Jurgen Klinsmann to coach with the USMNT. I think that's a decent resume. But besides that Jeff is crap, you don't want him.
I do't think bad is the correct wording. I sort of remember Kreis didn't get permission to talk to Cassar and after signing him as a coach they had to give some kind of compensation or fine. Doesn't seem enough for hard feelings more of a new coach blunder type of thing.
Mike Jeffries had a similarly good resume as an assistant under Bob Bradley in Chicago Not saying that Jeff Cassar is the next Mike Jeffries, mind you. Just saying that some assistants on good teams don't turn out to be all that great when they get the big promotion. Others are Dominic Kinnear.
Ok, fair enough... but again, what is it about him that makes anyone think he'd be a great head coach? I'm not saying he wouldn't be, but gosh we have Marco Ferruzzi here who's been in the system for YEARS and managed the reserve team and filled in when there was no head coach. I guess my question is, what does Cassar have in qualities and experience that Marco does not? Again, I am buying or selling anyone... just that I don't personally know of anything about Jeff's career that makes him a standout option for FCD... frankly the idea that we're talking about hiring someone else's assistant to be our head coach kills me inside just a little.
Ferruzi had the team playing well for the very brief time he was the head coach. I'm guessing he is a player's coach and would have the locker room on his side. He is also bilingual, but not a foreigner. Right? I am ok with this hire, but would like to know more about his credentials/licensing, his tactical preferences, and his competitiveness. Does anyone know much about this guy? He has put in the time and appears to be ready for a bigger role on someone's team.
I've always felt this is about the worst reason to hire a coach--because he's a known quantity and the players (whose jobs are rightfully at stake and in jeopardy for missing the playoffs) like him. The players have very selfish reasons for not wanting things to change too much. So when you see player campaigns like we've read about for Mark Watson in SJ or Carl Robinson in Vancouver or Brian Bliss in Columbus, I always get suspicious.
