I hope for all the best. I need him to help me make some more memes. Laughter can be great medicine.

Very sorry to read this. Many prayers for a speedy recovery. Being young helps immensely.

Areas around water falls can be particularly treacherous with slick rocks.

    :(

Awful to hear, one of the most knowledgeable referees on this board despite his young age. Very much hope this does not permanently interfere with him pursuing his obvious passion for refereeing.

He's one of the many great contributors to this forum. Hard to believe from the news article he's only 20, since he comes across very mature in his posts.

Always a positive and constructive contributor on this board. Hopefully he will heal and be intact!

But I agree- whether it is deductible, lost income, rehab copays or whatever people often could use money. If everyone who posted so far gave $10-20 I bet he or his family would find it useful.

Ckref22, since you know him, would you accept donations on his behalf?

This summer, I also was pretty close to having to be Life Flighted out of Bells Canyon.

Does he need help with some prosaic tasks like taking out the trash? It's supposed to snow here this weekend; I could shovel his driveway if necessary.

Family has posted more on social media. Here are the important points from the latest update:
    • "surgery went very well and was quite easy and quick"
    • once breathing tube is out, there will be more x-rays to see if additional surgery is required
    • he wants to "sit up and stretch and move" and "he nods or shakes his head to communicate"
    • he has a "minor compression fracture in his back," but it apparently will not require surgery

So bummed that La Rikardo was seriously hurt, but simultaneously glad that it wasn't even worse, and that his medical care seems to be coming along pretty well. Rest up and get well soon, sir!

Since I'm not close enough to Utah to shovel walks or bring a meal, I would be interested in making a contribution.
Thank you for the update. My thoughts are with him and his family.

Hey guys, while I know him personally, I live in a different state and only see him at regional events. So I would not feel comfortable accepting donations for him. I'll shoot his mother a message and see if there's anything that can be done.

Edit:his mother said that nothing has been set up because she hasn't left his side, but will get back to me when she gets a chance.

My next game will be an indoor small sided affair and I'm going to set aside the game fee for the fund if/when it does get created as a way to keep him connected to the game while he recovers. Like a lot of us I ref as a hobby and don't rely on game fees as part of the budget, and medical bills for something this serious can be a killer even with insurance.

@La Rikardo has now made his own post, saying he's "doing okay" and encouraging friends to come visit. No other details at the moment, but that seems a very positive sign.
