No hope for Jordan now after that goal.

In other news, it's currently 48 degrees Fahrenheit in Mexico City. Should be fun.

I've always wondered if FIFA has considered instead of having 2 sets of playoffs, having a little round-robin "mini-WC" qualifying group involving all 4 intercontinental playoff teams. Mexico, Uruguay, New Zealand and Jordan could meet for a week and play each other once in Brazil (or the upcoming world cup host nation).

You could have a schedule like:

    Mexico vs. New Zealand (Weds)
    Jordan vs. Uruguay (Weds)
    NZ vs. Jordan (Sat)
    Uruguay vs. Mexico (Sat)
    NZ vs. Uruguay (Weds)
    Mexico vs. Jordan (Weds.)

The international break is one week long anyway, so wouldn't any extra days, would just require one more game but would cut out the travel time. Would take out any "luck of the draw controversies" Anyhoo...What do you guys think?

"Cebolla" Rodriguez makes it 4-0. No sweat, Uruguay is unforgiving. When Jordan had a chance to score at the start of the 2nd, their striker flubbed it. Uruguay is clinical.

PS: Cavani and Suarez have been creating space, by pulling defenders. But today both seem unlikely to score, the job has been left to the other eight field players.

    Aaaand Forlan's on the field.

Euro Sport commentator was talking about the "Cebolla" nickname, wondering why they call him the "onion".

The guy pronounced it as "el chabello". :ROFLMAO:

    Cavani seeeee laaaaaa perdiooooooo....

PS: They call him "onion" because he makes defenders cry, of course. :)

PPS: Don't forget both Australia and Japan lost 2-1 in Amman. That shows the level of the CONMEBOL.

So with qualification in the bag how many of their stars does Uruguay bother dragging to Montevideo for the second leg? No reason to risk Suarez doing something stupid.

Probably all of them. These are some of the few chances they have to get them all released and play as a team, before the WC.

    Wow. That was pretty. 5-0.

A beautiful free kick by Cavani, with a lot of curl, right in the upper left corner. Impossible to save, the keeper just stared. The Jordanian guys look depressed. It's a massacre.

This match just proves that CONCACAF top 6 could easily handle any Asian team that's not Japan, SK, or Australia. Costa Rica at least put up a fight against Uruguay last cycle.

I think Iran is better than Jamaica and possibly Panama.

And, BTW, I think only the USA out of C-CAF could give this Uruguay a run for its money. This is a better team than the one from 2009.

They're good, but not that good. Costa Rica would likely play them evenly, since the Ticos are also better than 2009. Honduras would also make it very close.

I predict that Mexico will score 3 goals against NZ.

Actually, the Ticos in the Hex got a better stat in the head-to-head vs. the USMNT: they lost 1-0 in Colorado, but won 3-1 in San Jose, for a 3-2 global win. So yes, I guess the Ticos could put up a close fight --but lose in the end.

I think the USA could actually beat Uruguay, with some luck. Mexico would be dead, they're just not too good this cycle.

A 3-3 draw seems as reasonable a prediction as any, I suppose.

If any of the 3-4 CONCACAF teams get drawn into Uruguay's group at the World Cup, I would not at all be surprised if the Uruguayans earned 0 or 1 points from that specific group stage match against a CONCACAF opponent.
