Por culpa de un arbitro jamaiquino, Wilmots could not knock Brasil out of the WC 2002

Take a look for yourself, this goal was 1000 % valid, but Fifa is Ma-Fifa, we know that

That was the WC that robbed countries of their dreams ... Italy and Spain got definitely robbed by the referees in their games against co-host S.Korea. Back then Belgium played on the counter against a strong squad like Brazil ... would have been a different game if we were up 1 goal instead of down 1 later in that game ... crying over spilled milk though and actually we should have ended first in the group = avoiding Brazil and instead going up against Turkey.

We got robbed in 1994 too ... blatant foul by the Germans yet penalty not awarded (the German speaking referee was later sent home ... yet instead of QFs we were packing our bags too ... again after the 1/8 finals in which we should have faced an easier opponent, i.e. Ireland):

*around 7'30'' there's a more or less better replay yet in a post match analysis you could clearly see how he was pushed by both German defenders and kicked over by one of them.

Actually throughout WC history we have been on the wrong side of a huge amount of referee errors ... here's one more from the semi-finals against Maradona's Argentina (in the WC before we had beaten the then reigning WC champions and this could have been a repeat ... ironically Argentina had been looking to counter yet in the second half Belgium was taken apart ... some say because the players had been partying but a lot went wrong in that campaign already ... disputes in the team, player sent home, our GK Pfaff almost was drowned after rough play in the pool, etc. IIRC):

Still all the referee errors that went against us are nothing more than something to moan about ... a favourite hobby is moaning about sh*t.

This is for me, one of the worst, if not the worst non-call in any WC:

    From the wiki on him:

In the 1994 World Cup, he became the subject of controversy in the round of 16 match between Germany and Belgium, where he did not award a penalty to Belgium after their forward Josip Weber was brought down inside of the penalty area. Germany won the match 3–2. Prior to the match, Röthlisberger was a top favourite for supervising the final, but was sent home after the discussed game between Germany and Belgium. He also refereed the UEFA Champions League final in 1993 between Marseille and Milan. He was later banned from refereeing for life after allegations of match fixing; The UEFA found Röthlisberger guilty of bribery (there was plenty of controversy around that final).

The 2002 WC is the one that really stands out of the ones that I saw live (more than just bad refereeing it reeked of bribery) ... Especially Spain & Italy had reason to complain.

Back on topic ... was amazed when I heard that Colombia & Belgium have never played against each other ... it's about time that we do.

We played a friendly in 1998 prior to the WC in France.

    Belgium won 2-0.

I choose to repress that campaign ... 1998 wasn't our best ... it does not exist.

Wasn't it better than 94. And slightly worse the 90.

Mignolet goalkeeper, that is all we know for sure

Probably Meunier will make his debut as right back

98 was the only campaign in a successive run of 6 apps at the final stage in which we didn't make it out of the group ... our best striker at that time vowed never to play for the Belgian NT again because of a row with the manager ... now let us all forget about that campaign.

    Hmm.

Hopefully Armero can take advantage of the new right back. :D

Since Meunier has only played more or less 20 games on the RB position, this could be possible

Also Lombaerts was ruled out for the Colombia friendly (injury) and I think Vermaelen will take his place (was flawless against Man Utd yet Arsenal lost). Chadli is injured too.

At RB Alderweireld might hold onto his spot yet Wilmots could try out a young guy (Meunier replaces the second string RB).

Meunier (winger) was given the choice either pick up the skills to become an RB or sit on the bench ... and he got injured too ... as of lately he has been performing well yet he doesn't face world class opposition in the Belgian league. RB is our weakest link and now Kompany isn't there to provide cover either ... yet I'd like to see how the guys cope against a strong opponent

Just read that Belgium coach is planning on pairing Benteke and Lukaku at some point during the game, this will be a good test for our CB's against some top level talent.

well lukaku-benteke..dont scare me the same as aguero-higuain-messi, suarez-cavani or vargas-alexis, so it will be a new dificult challenge but nothing so new....i think that the real deal or test, is in the midfield with valencia/sanchez/aguilar vs hazard, de bruyne and co....

true they may not be on the same page as aguero/messi or suarez/cavani skill wise but they will have a definite advantage that our team has not faced yet, size. Benteke and Lukaku are both 6'3 and they have good pace. It will be interesting to see how Pekerman decides to deal with teams that have physical advantages over our NT.
