I had a talk a few months back with a high ranking member of the Para state government (Belem is the capital of Para) and he told me that the government of Amazonas (Manaus is the capital of Amazonas) paid the right people. Actually his exact quote was that Amazonas paid more. Personally as a place to visit I much prefer Manaus. Belem reminds me of New Orleans immediately after Hurricane Katrina. Suffice it to say I won't be going to work for the Belem Tourism board. Cuiaba is more of a headscratcher for me. Really they should have just gone with 8 in my opinion: Porto Alegre, Sao Paulo, Rio, Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Fortaleza, and Manaus. Could have saved some money, cut down on the white elephant stadiums, better development in the chosen host cities.
Does anyone know what the local attitude re the world cup is in Manaus? any different than any of the other cities or likely just the same. Is this a place you could take the kids or just leave them at home?
I suspect tickets in Manaus and Cuiaba are going to be easy to get right up til kick off, except perhaps if Argentina plays there. You can still get tickets even now to games in those cities. Maybe the draw will favor demand for games in Manaus or Cuiaba, but right now the combination of distance, remoteness, relatively smaller local populations, suggest there may be some empty seats on game days in those venues.
missed rio lottery along with several other people I know. Not surpised. Got 2 venue tix for Natal this AM, which I am happy enough with. Looking to find one of game 51/52 and 57 in recife/fortaleza though.
Nailed a Brasilia r16 and Brasilia qf this morning. Don't know how I did it. With my Aussie tst4 I now at least have a trip
The people that I have talked with are pretty excited to host the games. They are a little disappointed with the construction delays and cost overruns for the stadium, but not unexpected. The phrase that Brazilians use with schedules is that Brazil always does things "na hora" (at the time) and never before. But really Manaus is one of the safer cities for the most part. Downtown is a bit shady by the port, but you get up by Ponta Negra they actually have done a lot of development just in the last few years in advance of the cup. Even created a beach there. Of course people were getting eaten by crocodiles on that beach until someone decided to build a net to keep them out. Details, details.
Went back (for more punishment?) after lunch. Put a Croatia TST 3 in my basket and it actually worked. Put it back though. Just seeing if I could actually buy one.
I got on relatively quick by hitting refresh - around 10 AM Brasilia time. - Didnt help though. Everytime I tried for "available" tix they were sold out.

@Neville2 I think 8 might have been a little too extreme. Even South Africa had 10 host cities. Above all, however, I'd scrap Cuiabá in favor of Florianópolis. I know it's because of the swamps and all, but it would make a lot more sense in every other scale. I'd prefer to go to Manaus over Belém, but again, that's pretty much the only excuse they have.
@Neville2 seems like you've been all around Brazil. Have you been to Belo Horizonte? What's your thoughts on the city? Got a game in Belo for the WC and plan on splitting time between Belo, Rio, and Buzios.

I have been extremely lucky to have lived and traveled here the last 3 years for work, but sadly I don't really know Belo Horizonte (or Porto Alegre and Curitiba). I have only ever made connections at the airport. I have heard mostly good things from my Brazilian friends and would like to check it out. I am hoping the U.S. is drawn there. Perhaps to play and beat England again?
BH is pretty nice. Not a whole lot to do, and not nearly as famous as Brasilia when it comes to architecture - but a lof of the city is planned and modernist like the capital. Probably the real benefit from BH is exploring the surrounding historical cities of Ouro Preto (pretty fun town), Mariana, and Tiradentes. And BH has a lot good bars too - region is known for cachaça so you definitely drink and buy some good stuff. Also food is great there.
Belem has some good stuff like the famous municipal market. But I can def see some shady dealings with respect to Manaus. I also do anticipate a lot of purchases out there due to the region's tax free status. Floripa would've been a good idea but I think the city is too spread out and generally isolated given its island status. I also really wish they had just used 2 stadiums in some cities - like Palmeiras new stadium in SP or the new Olimpico stadium in Porto Alegre.
Any of you have got a TST for Mexico? this sale or the first sale? please let me know, cause for me seem impossible, thanks
Hey, I have 2 tickets to game 43 (Porto Alegre, F1 VS F4), Which I want to trade to game 50 and above (Round of 16/Quarter Final). I will pay the difference. PM Me if interested.
I'm trying to decide which Venue Series Ticket I should apply for. Can some please recommend the city with the most interesting architecture?
