On the strength of a phantom foul on the GK that resulted in a converted pk, and a goal with two minutes to play, Louisville beats Memphis 2-1. Memphis had hit the post with 4 minutes to go in the game and had been denied their own pk foul in the box.
Asked for and answered. Just look back a few pages until last year. As a hobby, I take a more in-depth look at various things statistical items related to soccer and last year I took a closer look at RPI. There is also some historical minutia such as the number of drafted players different schools have had on their roster.
This is the benefit of the Wac to the Pacific Northwest teams. Patsy team that wins a lot of games against weak conference teams. Too bad for the WCC there is only one WAC.
When Porter was at Akron he had a very short bench and the king of short benches is Gunn at Stanford who uses less subs than many pro teams do. In one game the announcers said he's never used more than 3 in one game. When I looked at the statistics for games played to games started, the numbers were almost identical.
Zips prevail at home over NIU 2-0. Huskies' #7 Isaac Kanaah is a handful. Nevermind their overall record.
Was actually Akron over NIU 2-1 and yes he is a handful. The problem this year seems to be that he is the "only" handful.
Did they go to Episode IV High School? #StarWars #NerdAlert Is Tim Vom Steeg coaching Davis these days?
Maybe some has rubbed off. Coach Shaffer's after-game comments were critical of the team, both in the team meeting and the online report - http://www.ucdavisaggies.com/sports/m-soccer/recaps/102613aab.html
Penn St wraps up the Big Ten title with a game in hand, beating Northwestern 2-1. Only Ohio St stands between the Nittany Lions and a perfect conference season. If not for Jamie Clark's incredible success in Washington, I think Bob Warming would have a strong case for national coach of the year.
At halftime, UCLA is tied with Washington 1-1. Guess who assisted, and how, Washington's goal. G-ahead, guess. It'll be a huge shock. #NotReally
And UCLA wins 2-1 on a second half goal from freshman Gage Zerboni. The top 3 ranked teams all lost this weekend. Is UMBC really gonna be No. 1?
When the highlights get posted, I'll be interested in seeing this one again. Seemed like Washington's GK needed to get to the ball that was crossed in. But full credit to Zerboni for being there to convert. A few moments earlier, he made a nice run and shot, gave his team an offensive spark off of the bench.
Elsewhere, Wisconsin beats Michigan State 1-0 to get to 10 wins and likely secure their first NCAA Tournament big since they won it all in 1995.
In spite of Indiana's crash and burn, the Big Ten will be getting a lot of bids and seeds this year. With Maryland coming on board, it's gonna get mighty interesting.
Yup it's weird. I thought the conference would be down a bit except for Indiana who I thoguht would run away with it. I was wrong.
That may be a fair question, but this wasn't a match where IU dominated, then faded at the end. IU had some good moments, but Michigan generally had the better of play in both halves of the match.
VCU tuned up for the A-10 with one of the toughest non-con schedules in the country and, for the most part, it paid off as they were undefeated in conference play. The key words in that sentence are "for the most part" and "were" as today they fell 1-0 to Saint Joseph's. VCU is now 8-5-2, 3-1-0 while St. Joe's is 3-7-5, 1-3-0.
It's great to be able to see the game on the PAC 12 network, it is just hard to watch Washingtons style of play. Makes for a sloppy game. Very interesting PAC 12 race.
Yes, of course, it was 2-1. I was there. Sorry for the typo. I was so thankful to not go to yet another OT in the freezing cold.
