Good for Simon. Not the ideal situation, but it's the right amount of time to shine, which hopefully he does. If not, it will be over in 3 months an he can go somewhere else. Thanks for finding that.

I guess even on the bench he makes more money than an MLS contract would give him and he also has hopes or an illusion of playing in the EPL. Not sure what young player wouldn't jump at the opportunity. Whether he gets the chance or not is another story.

If his loan spell at Derby County also comes to nothing, the Quakes and California may look attractive to him again. He played in the second half against Watford last weekend in his first game with the Rams and apparently had a decent shot just over the bar according to the Derby Cty website. Will be interesting to see how he does this Saturday against Birmingham and going forward

Derby are apparently playing surprisingly well too, should be a playoff contender. i imagine they would extend the loan if he is a key figure

Dawkins's goal starts at 20 seconds:

His first goal in official competitions in England.

Still don't know why he could not have played all summer with us and gone back in September.....

The guy wanted to be in England. Championship is still a little bit higher level than MLS, despite what many MLS fans say. I'd really love to see a tournament of MLS teams vs English League Championship teams.

Because we wanted to buy him, (or Tottenham wanted to sell him to us) and we wouldn't meet their price.

Therefore, he basically wasted one full year and/or season of being on a bench or being inactive at Aston Villa playing a total of 71 minutes in parts of 4 matches. Pretty stupid thinking on someone's part I'd say.

You make it sound like he had the major say in this.

Of course he did. He said he wanted to play in the EPL at all costs a number of times saying, "its no secret that I want to play there". The club has a say to a point but if the player didn't want to go to Aston Villa initially, he wouldn't have and even had he gone, he could have come back in June and I don't believe the Spurs would not have loaned him out to the Quakes again. Either way or whichever way you look at it, the fact remains, he played total 71 minutes in the last year. That in my opinion for a younger 24/25 year old is not only a waste of time but also a waste of talent. I'm sure had he come back to the Quakes he will have made more noise than he has in the last year.

Of course he wanted to play in the EPL if possible, who wouldn't, but, show me twice where he said that.

Really? If Dawkins refused to go they could have put him in football limbo.

    uh, he did go.

The fact that he did not return on loan tells me either they did not want to loan him back to us, or we didn't want him on a loan

There are a lot of first team players that don't see much time. He obviously made enough noise to get a loan deal with Derby.

That was a nifty finish. He had to kick the ball at an awkward angle because the defender was coming up on him to block off the angle. So he kind of reached up with his foot and hit it at just the right angle into the corner of the net.

Exactly but why should I show you twice? Once is enough....

San Jose Earthquakes pleased with British import Simon Dawkins
"Who wouldn't want to play there?" Dawkins said of Tottenham. "That's been a goal of mine since I was a little kid."

What do you think he has been in since he left the Quakes last year?

Makes no sense. I don't see why they wouldn't want to loan him as they did two years before.

71 minutes in a years time is a lot of noise? In my opinion that is a complete waste especially for an aspiring international player in his prime who has or had hopes to represent his country. Of course there are a lot of first team players that don't see time but then, they don't or didn't have opportunities to play elsewhere either and Dawkins did/does. He could have been a star and/or starting midfielder in MLS gaining tons of valuable experience not to mention accolades , instead he is relegated to a reserve game or two. Don't see how that isn't a waste of talent.

I said it was "enough" noise. He is now seeing first team action. Dawkins was Steve McClaren's first signing when he took over Derby. He obviously heard good things about him from both Tottenham and Villa. And you keep ignoring the fact that we couldn't strike a deal with Tottenham. You make it sound like Dawkins was the one who kept that from happening.

I don't believe that. He has been basically idle for 12 months and I don't know which team would want to loan out an aspirin player who needs to gain experience. Again, why did they loan him before and not now? It makes absolute no sense. I mean what changed in 2011 2012 to now other than the fact that he is two years older?

Tottenham said we could buy him for "x" amount of dollars, we declined. Again, since he didn't come over on loan it was because we didn't want him on loan, or they didn't want to loan him to us. And the last "aspirin" player we had did well for us before becoming a turncoat.:p

    Aspiring!

To have a great ambition or ultimate goal; desire strongly: aspired to stardom.

In the end though, he wasn't that great. A lot of smoke, no cigar.....

Yeah, not that great. The guy Alan Gordon described as the best player on the team. A guy who scored 8 goals for us last year. A guy who is part of Tottenham's academy, has played for Aston Villa in the premier league, now in championship on loan. Yeah, nothing worth looking at. ::insert rolling eyes smiley::

Sometimes I think you just like to post something for the sake of posting, falvo.
