The whole discussion makes no sense. Are the fans and media in Seattle really that restless?

Seattle is two points behind RBNY for the Supporter's Shield..............with a game in hand.

Sigi Schmid has led his team to at least one major trophy in 4 of the last 5 years [2008, 2009, 2010, 2011], with a good chance of getting another one this season.

His record with Seattle is 44-24-26 or a 47% winning percentage.
That is a better winning percentage than golden child Kreis' in Salt Lake (43%), Dominic Kinnear in Houston (40%), etc. And he's done it while starting up a frickin' expansion team!

[Kinnear has a 40% winning percentage and he's considered a god in Houston, Schellas Hyndman has a 38% winning percentage in Dallas and he's being run out of town. That's what happens when you can't win the big games.]

This is a league built on parity. If you're winning a trophy every year and have close to a 50% winning percentage, you're frickin' Houdini! And if a fan thinks their team should be doing better than that.................they're delusional.

Kerry Zavagnin - former Nat. And asst. to Peter Vermes since 2009

Wilmer Cabrera - former Colombian Nat. And coach of the U-17 US Nats from 2007-20012 before becoming Oscar Pareja's lead assistant in Colorado.

Leonel Alvarez - former Burn player, long time Colombian Nat, former Colombian Nats Manager and current Manager of Deportivo Cali.

I like Alvarez the most but think Cabrera might be a good fit also style wise and he also has some extensive youth coaching background which would hopefully mesh well with advancing the HG cause here.

I may be remembering wrong but I think Kerr did not want to be here with the Burn. Anyone remember if he was the one? If so of course he's not wanted now. I don't know enough about the other assistants but am not against them. Hopefully someone at FCD is knowledgeable about all the assistants and any college coach who could move up (although FCD may need a break from former college coaches with no pro experience for a while).

Yeah I think Alvarez and Cabrera would be two solid candidates because of their experience obviously, and their connections to the franchise and MLS

As far as asst. coaches I'm not all that confident in my knowledge of this either, which is why I only looked at the most groomed relatively young coaches who play in progressive systems. As far as college coaches it would have to be someone like a Caleb Porter type. Too bring in an older coach, i.e. Your Sigi Schmidt, Arena, Hyndman type, would just be redundant and frankly I think that era in U.S. Soccer is coming to a close and a club like FC Dallas should be progressive in all aspects.

Another guy that will probably be added to the list is Frank Yallop.....................

I mean, the guy did win the Supporter's Shield in 2012. That's not ancient history.

I don't think that's the direction we'll go, but I was just throwing the name out there.

Yallop is one of the shrink the field so I can play defense with goons types. If MLS insisted on big fields and grass certain coaches wouldn't be looked looked upon so kindly.

Remember when LA fired Sigi when the team was in first place? That happened. Seattle's recent run of form, despite their place in the standings, has been abysmal. Worse, they can't get their DPs to click. For the amount they're spending, they need to get way, way past the first round of the playoffs under Sigi, and they haven't ever done that. If they don't do it this year, he's gone.

Now apply that logic to Sigi. OK, he won the USOC four times in a row, but every game Seattle played in those tournaments was at home, and most of the Johnny-come-lately Seattle fans wouldn't consider the USOC a "big" tournament if they didn't need to tout their trophies in the absence of even the tiniest bit of MLS Cup playoff success.

For what it's worth, I do think Seattle needs to fire Sigi, but that doesn't mean I think he's a bad coach. As I pointed out already, he has a great track record in MLS. A team like Dallas could do worse than pick him up, and that's about where he should be right now. He's no longer the type you want helming the highest-profile teams in the league, but he can still help rebuild a bottom-feeder like us.

Still, I'd rather have someone like Wynalda, just for the kicks and the upside.

A Texas-based guy who might deserve a shot is Paul Dalglish, formerly of the Dynamo, currently a Dynamo youth system coach and the PDL-winning/PDL-coach-of-the-year-winning coach of the Austin Aztex. The PDL is a hard league to manage due to turnover, but two years in a row Dalglish's Aztex have been one of the best teams in the league. Kekutah Manneh and Dillon Powers came out of there. Dalglish may not be interested, but MLS teams looking to take a chance should be.

Some intriguing names out there. Of course, most fans would be ecstatic if the choice were El Generalito or the Golden Wonder. Bradley or Nicol would very probably bring FCD the Cup, and Cabrera is a fascinating possibility.

There is nothing wrong with sitting back and waiting. See if JK9 or Sigi become available. Talk to them if they do. I would venture to wager that either one

This is, however, HSG and FCD. I believe we can start the "Fire Clavijo" thread right now.

Prove me wrong, HSG. Hire a winner.

Bob Bradley will be available . Many would love to see him return to MLS. Will he be a good fit? Can HSG afford him?

Can you picture The Big Sig in a cowboy hat? If you are looking for a guy with a proven record of success AND the ability to work in MLS with a mix of domestic and Latino players, he would be the man. Plus the old saying of "everything being bigger in Texas" would be so fitting.

IIRC, didn't Sigi leave Columbus due to a contract dispute with the owners?

I would take Ramos over Wynalda.

Saying you would take Schmid would be like saying you like breathing. I doubt he wants to move to Tx, he's a left coast guy. I have no idea whether he's got issues with the Hunts.

The Franchise Office ought to want Bradley.

    Relatively interesting comments from Huuuuuuuuuuunt:
    http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...yndmans-replacement-could-take-5-6-weeks-find

Hunt admitted that the timeline was only a best-case scenario, considering he doesn’t want to rush just to have someone in place quickly. He declined to give particulars on the traits the club is looking for in the next coach except to say that it would be important for the new hire to embrace FC Dallas’ commitment to building talent through their academy.

“I don’t think it’s important that they necessarily have a background in an MLS youth program, but I do think it’s important that they are open-minded about the importance of youth academies,” Hunt said. “I would hope the next coach of FC Dallas understands that and appreciates that and wants to continue the strong momentum that FC Dallas has as a leader in that area.”

Somebody mentioned Pareja's right hand man Wilmer Cabrera earlier in this thread............................

Or... find out what it would cost to get Oscar Pareja out of Colorado. I know, I know, HSG, etc. etc., but at least find out what Kroenke's price is.

I would love for Oscar to come home but does he want to? He is very family oriented and left the US U17's to get back to Dallas and not disrupt his kids. Now it may be the other way where they are settled in Colorado or Dallas could get lucky and they want to return here. I suspect this is much more important to him than money.

    Top Candidates for next manager:

    1. Gregg Berhalter - Guy has Euro and MLS experience. Has the makings of a quality coach.

    2. Curt Onalfo - Has been toiling as Bruce's assistant for last few years - deserves another shot at head coach.

    3. Tab Ramos - If he's willing to leave u-20 job, he'd be a great pick up for molding young players into contributors.

    4. Mike Lapper - He's been an assistant forever - does he have any interest in head coaching job?

    5. Steve Ralston - Assistant to Kinnear last few seasons - could be ready to take a step up.

    6. Preki - Really shocked he hasn't gotten another head coaching gig after solid efforts at Chivas and Toronto.

    7. Steve Nicol - If he'd like to leave ESPN, would be great pick up.

    8. Kerry Zavagnin - current assistant at KC, has plenty of MLS and national team experience.

    9. Jesse Marsch - did well at Montreal.

    10. Richie Williams - If he's willing to leave u-17 national team.

    11. John Spencer - didn't do horribly in his 1.5 seasons in Portland.

    12. Gary Smith - Proven MLS cup winner.
