Sunderland next three games: Pool & MU at the stadium of Light and at Swansea. He may be gone
by the time of the trip to Wales.

Mata is a good player but the amount of fapping over him is a bit ridiculous.

I never expected Di Canio to make it to the winter transfer window...Too controversial, too hot headed, unprofessional, and incapable of leading his squad in spirit or in tactics....

not a EPL quality manager....better suited for tv for nonsensical punditry

Mata offers something different from Ozil and Cazorla though. The idea would be to play the three of them in some games behind Giroud in a 4-2-3-1, and their movement would just destroy some teams. Switch out with the likes of Walcott, Ox, and Podolski on the flanks as needed for serious depth, interchangeability, and protection from injuries. Especially since Rosicky's not all that reliable, and Mata and Ozil or good enough to play deeper and be the pivot if needed.

More to do with the lack of players of his quality in the EPL imho

of course. Media hyped him up and most people dont know better.
All Spaniards been getting hyped up. He is a 2nd tier Spanish player, imo.

This year, the lower 2nd tier and 3rd tier guys are moving to England and its messing things up even more.

that would be the worst defensive midfield in the league.

Nah man, its not gonna happen. Again, you are talking about paying a lot of money for a squad player.

Mata is really not that special.

I actually agree with what Mourinho is doing in building the team around Oscar, but Mata shoulda been sold in the summer. Maybe they could have gotten a striker based off his sale. Eto'o looking flabby and sick this year.

Am I the one fapping over him? Tell me what I've said that's untrue or embellishment.

They've conceded two goals all season. Their attack is a work in progress, but rumors of their demise...

Middle class Spaniards cheaper and better technically than similar Englishmen. Emphasis on price in this regard.

He was among the extreme short list of best players in the league last season tbf. The guy is pretty great. But as others have said, he is excess to our needs post-Özil. Actually I would happily swap him for Santi, as he is 3 1/2 years younger, Santi is allready abit up there in age. But, that being said we have what we have and we are golden in attacking mids for a few more seasons at least. Spend our money elsewhere.

Luiz is a little wild, but I would happily take him. He's better than Verm for sure in my book, and again is a player who is still quite young.

I think Chelsea at the end will be in the thick of things.....i am expecting their tactics to be sorted out.....while they are getting sorted out...hopefully we can continue getting three pts..

He had 21 goals and 29 assists in all competitions last season per ESPN. In 60 matches, to be sure, but those numbers are crazy.

He's had double digit assist totals in the league each of the past three seasons.

Squad depth and quality will rule the day. I see us faltering in the stretch simply because of depth. Sad as it is because truly the league is up for grabs as it has been the past 8 years. Smart timely acquisitions have flipped the title race in favor of the winners each time imho

Comic keeping on that goal, he should have held on to the ball there.

i still say he'd be a good rotation player. he's (usually) steady enough without being fantastic.

Meh, if he's available I'd have him in my squad, what's wrong with a little luxury? I don't necessarily need a Lamborghini Aventador to get to work, but if it's in the budget, why not?

Luiz could be a star under Wenger and Ba for 8-12 goal-a-season depth.

Make ready the raiding party lads, Stamford Bridge is ripe for the plundering...

I'm not sure he would have included Baggio, in his prime, in this Chelsea team.

Tbf, Baggio got that treatment from several coaches in his career. If it weren't for a couple of those, he would be seen by more to be greater than Zidane imho ...

    Mata is
Not going to get involved on the intricacies of 1st or 2nd level for Spaniards, but I feel that a number of posts are selling Mata pretty short here. He is a top talent. He was Chelsea best player, by far, the last couple of years and perhaps easily a top 3 player in the EPL last year. If it was not for Ozil, I would happily have him at the Emirates. Mou may be the only manager who could get away (for now) of keeping him on the bench.

By the way, a number of these inexpensive "2nd or 3 dr level spanish players" are still better (and cheaper) than what we should consider 1st level English player (i.e National team players). I would take Chico or Rangel (of Swansea) any day over Cahill or Glen Johnson.

    Charlie,

I said the same thing, the 2nd tier guys are cheaper and often better than their English counterparts. The English premium is imho preventing English players development at times imho
