Those people are going to look at how Chivas DG is doing and not bat an eye. I, for one, can't. I'm like a lot of people, I've been following this for years, since the Mother Ship played the MLS allstars. This franchise has been terrible for the last few years. Everyone who knows anything about anything knows this. The league can handle the PR because they have the facts on their side. You live in Texas and you're from Seattle. How did you get to be such an expert on the sociology of LA? How are you more of an expert than the people who live there? Yeah, it's fun to sound off around here, but c'mon.
While you're probably right that MLS is hoping Vergara will sell the club and go away of his own volition, I doubt that Vergara would have much luck using the tactic you suggest he might, at least not while his team is lousy on the field, lousy in the stands, and--most importantly--being sued for discrimination on the basis of national origin. Against that backdrop, claims about anti-Mexican discrimination would ring pretty hollow among the 106 people in America willing to listen to them in the first place.
I believe 99% perecent of Mexicans, on both sides of the border, wouldn't take him, or a PR attempt like that seriously. Jose V is what he is.......and it's pretty much understood everywhere.
I don't claim to be an expert on LA. I do think I could drum up a whole lot of protests about a whole lot of nothin' and do it really, really easily - here in Texas, in Washington, in LA, just about anywhere, honestly. I've seen it done many, many, many times. I could give you a really great example of a Facebook-driven protest providing misinformation to a community and creating a political situation forcing politicians to respond, and possibly change policy, here in Texas right now. Can't do that because my job is more important to me than posts on a soccer website. But it happens everywhere, all of the time. It's not hard to do. I'm not predicting Vergara would even do something like this - just a hypothetical I came up with to make the point that MLS does not hold all of the cards. It was response to speculation the league will just run him out and "sell the team to Sacramento" - the "hunch" mentioned earlier.
But... Again... MLS just points to De La Hoya and Brener as proof of Mexican-American ownership in the league, the various discrimination lawsuits, and the general incompetence to show why they yanked the forced him to sell.
by your logic Chivas USA can point to the non mexican/Mexican-American players and say "look we don't discriminate we have american citizens and foreigners of different races and ethnicity's on our team."
There is a difference between forcing someone out because the are incompetent and forcing someone out because of their ethnicity...
Has Liga MX been trying to get rid of him? I seem to remember them creating a new rule to stop Slim from buying him out.
They haven't tried to get rid of him at all; they created a rule to "prevent" multi-ownership, Guadalajara was never for sell nor did he make an offer to buy Guadalajara. no there isn't, especially not by your examples.
Jorge Vergara has revealed he will give an "important announcement" regarding Chivas. Rumors floating he has found buyer for GDL/Chivas USA.— Eric Gomez (@EricGomez86) September 4, 2013 Code:
The announcement amounted to nothing more than Vergara saying "I know I have made mistakes with Chivas (not Chivas USA) and I will do better."
I'm guessing it was a lot of attention grabbing nothing? It is very strange to me that he didn't even touch on Chivas USA, a team he now fully runs (on paper) and has suffered personnel changes too— Eric Gomez (@EricGomez86) September 4, 2013
Nope. He just held a press conference to say he plans to "do better" with Chivas. Never even mentioned CUSA. Eric Gómez @goaleric12m Vergara's message is basically that he's going to "do better" and help team "achieve better results."
Yes it was, sorry for the false alarm, I've deleted my post. I've also vowed never to try to post on an iPad.
And people scoffed at my hypothetical that Vergara would hold a press conference stirring up trouble if the MLS actually ran him out.
I’m not sure they scoffed at the idea of Vergara holding a press conference, more that most people simply wouldn’t care. Vergara has burned so many bridges here in Los Angeles even the most ardent Chivas USA supporters are done with him. I’m sure he’d whip up a few individuals on the look out for discriminatory practices, but it would lose steam faster than Chivas’ attendance this year.
I literally laughed out loud at this post. I mean, wow, with leaping ability like that, you're the Bob Beamon of the internet. And HOLDING a press conference is one thing. Having that press conference achieve what you projected is another.
OK, OK. I get the point. Was only a hypothetical. Still think I could pull it off, but you know, you guys are less cynical than me.
