UCLA commits a ridiculously stupid foul as Joe Sofia unnecessarily takes down Tommy Thompson in the box, getting a red can giving Indiana a PK in the 86th minute. Dylan Mares' PK is saved by Earl Edwards.

NIU down 1-0 at the 55 minute mark against Ohio State.....NIU awarded a penalty kick at the 66th and it is missed.

According to MatchTracker, UCSB started freshman Josh McNeely in place of Austin Mansker today, and McNeely posted a 1-0 shutout win over UIC and its fellow freshman GK John Putna.

So weird about Sofia at UCLA. When I have seen him play, he always seemed pretty cool and in control. So he will be unavailable for the Cal Poly game this Thursday.

In other west news, UCSB wins 1-0 over UIC. Lots of fouls by UCSB (25) and Vom Steeg is sent off. So he is out for their next game. I listened to this online and it sounded like the flow of the match was pretty bad, think that is why TVS was upset. Also, freshman Armand Bagramyan suffered a hamstring injury.

    Victor Chavez with the winner.

IU set a new attendance record, though. 7,720. UCLA might not draw that many all season.

IMHO, Sandon's assessment of Sofia's foul is a bit harsh. The freshman Smith's horrible turnover at RB put Sophia into no mans land and it looked like he took one for the team. The red card was issued for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity as he was the last defender with the PK issued due to the foul occurring in the box. The announcers were incorrect in stating the red card was for dissent. And I agree, in his career as a Bruin he has always been pretty calm as indicative of this being his very first red.
Unfortunate he won't be available for the Mustangs but fortunately the Bruins are deep on defense.

For their second match of the week-end Pitt drew again: 0-0 against Longwood University.
They dominated the match. 16 shots against 5. 13 corners against 2.
They also played a nicer game than the one against Oakland, with less long 'lost cause' balls and a more patient, more mature game. Well, today the finish was not there.
Pitt played the two matchs without Junior Michael Tuohy, Scotland and their new freshman Swiss international Charron (muscular strain), who seems on recovery, but did not play today cautiously.
Pitt will play their first ACC match Friday against NC State.

Pitt's coach confirms my 'video stream' based thoughts: large domination but lack of 'killing' shots. Football is a game with small scores: it is why the most expansive players are the ones who can make the difference by scoring THE goal which brings the three points.

PS: it seems it was 20-5 shots.

It's nice that Dunseth is impressed with Stanford's Jordan Morris, and deservedly so, he really needs to stop talking about that and call the game. Would be nice to know who's playing the ball.

Also, Stanford caught a bit of an unlucky break to concede the PK + red, but Dunseth is also wrong to call the referee's decision "rash."

Great buildup from Stanford, great cross, good header from Verso, inches wide. Playing very well a man down.

Allen just bulled his way through the Stanford D and blasted a lot shot, unlucky to hit the post.

Kyle Cummings makes it 2-0 Tulsa in the 35th minute... Akeil Barrett (played for Tulsa Athletics NPSL last summer) subs for Ray Saari.

Ugh. This camera work on the close ups on Creighton game is awful.
