Grant Wahl says some weird stuff sometimes: Grant Wahl @GrantWahl2h Both RSL & PDX will make the playoffs. Class of the league predominantly in the west again. SS Race 1) West - RSL 2) East - Montreal 3) West - Los Angeles 4) East - New York 5) East - Kansas City 6) West - Colorado 7) West - Portland 8) East - Philadelphia Not sure what his justification for that one is.
It's studs up into his foot, not his leg (mistake in earlier post). Regardless, in that sort of challenge, it doesn't matter. There was no contact that caused Zemanski's leg to rise - watch the replay again, it starts going up before he gets to the ball. Studs showing, potentially very dangerous challenge, easy red card to give out.
Here ya go. Foot down. Foot down. Foot comes up as they are both making contact. Cleats still pointed down. Zemanski is attempting to play the ball to his right. RSL player is attempting to play ball forward. RSL player's foot (who is following through on his forward kick) gets underneath Zemanski's foot as the ball pops out to Zemanski's right. (If you download the previous image and this image and toggle back and forth between the two, you will see Zemanski's foot move because the RSL player's foot is now kicking it up.) Foot on top of cleat. Foot still on top of cleat. Foot still on top of cleat. You stated in post #201 that it "was a conscious decision on Zemanski's part to make firm contact with his opponent's leg." You can obviously see in this sequence that is was far from firm as Zemanski allows both his knee and hip to flex. If he had kept a straight leg the whole time and not attempted to make no contact, his forward momentum would have kept his leg down, but instead because he lets his knee and hip flex, his cleat is able to stay in contact with the RSL player's foot and be pulled upward as he goes in the opposite direction.
And that's a red card. He went in, and his cleats were exposed to the player while he made firm and continuing contact with that players leg/foot. To top it off, he actually DOVE INTO THE TACKLE. You don't have to actually break a guys leg or the bones in his foot to get a red. Diving into a tackle in this manner was reckless. And if you want guys to stop making these type of tackles, you have to punish them ... whether or not the player on the receiving end is maimed.
Sedlie, the reason why cleats up contact is called a red card is because you're taking a large amount of force, and concentrating it on a small area, so it can cause serious injury and pain. I don't care about your argument with that other guy, that is what happened here. The cleats met the player who was running towards him, this is extremely dangerous and could've easily broken his leg. Even if they were two bodies only running 10mph, that's both of them so it's 20mph and the mass of the players focused on the tip of a few cleats. It's a red card, it should always be a red card if we want players to stay healthy and keep playing the game. Players who aren't good and just go into tackles for the hell of it should learn to play the game, end of.
Rimando is usually a Goalkeeping god, i think this was probably his worst game of the season. If he was his normal self this game Portland wouldnt have scored. Also Robbie Findley is awful. The sad thing is that he makes almost as much as Olmes Garcia, Sandoval, and Plata make combined.
between incompetence of 2012 TFC FO and Joao Plata basically engineering his own loan away from Toronto w/ LDU Quito (essentially walking away from the team), plenty of blame to go around why Plata is no longer playing for TFC
Hope Valeri isn't hurt badly and can get back into form soon, he's a great player. RSL has a strange way of losing their possession after they get a lead. It's scary some times. Rimando might take some heat, but that first goal was like 3 on 7 - and Nagbe floated free, somehow. Have to look at Beckerman for that...or Gil/Beltran for getting caught way out of the play on the right side.
SS Race 1) West - RSL 2) East - Montreal 3) West - Los Angeles 4) East - New York 5) East - Kansas City 6) West - Colorado 7) West - Portland 8) East - Philadelphia ----- more accurately going by PPG: 1. Salt Lake 2. Montreal 3. Seattle 4. Los Angeles 5. New York 6. Kansas City 7. Colorado 8. Portland
CORRECTED: more accurately going by PPG: 1. Salt Lake 2. Montreal 3. Seattle 4. Los Angeles 5. New York 6. Kansas City 7. Colorado 8. Houston 9. Portland
Man, we've seen this movie before: The rest of the league beats the snot out of each other for months while Bruce and his studs lollygag along.... until September and the playoffs. I, for one, welcome our Galaxy Overlords, (********ing bastards)
you are forgetting the 2 supporter's shields though which LAG definitely didn't lollygag. I guess you are referring to last season though?
Weather delay in Columbus. They've cleared out the stadium.. I wager that even though it is a sellout, actual attendance will be low...
Doesn't sound like it from what the Seattle announcers are saying. Sounds like a fast moving lightning storm.
