With Carli in attack mode, "IT'S WHAT I DO BEST," it's official, the US has no defensive holding mids. For F#$%'s sake, bring in Johnston or Roccaro or somebody DEFENSIVE MINDED for a look!

I understand the reasons, but it's a little ironic that with the game in DC the only Spirit player involved is Worbis for Mexico.

I would say it is very likely unless he puts Holiday on the outside for some reason.

Well I guess he can start Averbuch, and Lloyd inside and Holiday and HAO outside but knowing Sermanni and his belief in throwing them into the fire, I think u get Holiday, Lloyd, HAO and Tymrak.

DiBernardo is kind of a surprise as she mostly plays inside. This might have been a better spot for Ohai who does play AM sometimes at UNC.

I'd love to see Tymrak thrown in... I also like Vanessa D, she's plays a little like LLoyd imo. She's not afraid of a tough challenge either. I prefer Brian though, she has great vision, technical ability.

    Dunn becky rampone robinson
    holiday lloyd brian tymrak
    sid abby

This would be so awesome if this kid gets a cap:

I see him starting HAO and Tymrak and bringing V in for like the last 15 minutes. I think she plays CAM at Illinois but her role in the midfield for the U20s is very similar to the way Sermanni uses his outside mids. I guess the other possibility now that I think of it is pulling Mewis back up to AM but I think it's gonna be Tymraks show. The way TS has been running things that means Tymrak will have the ball a lot.

Mewis won't see mid-field for the NT. They put her at backup to O'hara for a spot. As someone said, someone likes her over at USSoccer. I still don't think she is in the best 21 like some others. She's to Sydney what Buehler is to Rampone.

Johnston has been in "for a look", actually more than once.

As he only took 18 and there is only one practice session, no one is getting much of a look. This is another surprising thing about DiBernardo. Why bring anyone u havent already seen in for so brief a look?

So if not a real look then maybe the right thing to do is to throw a bond to a college kid.

So at the end of the game the attacking seven could be
    F Morgan 24
    F Leroux 23
    AM Tymrak 22
    CAM Brian 20
    AM DiBernardo 21
    RFB Dunn 21
    LFB Mewis 22

Not a surprise to me who has seen this kid play since High School.
DiBernardo is the perfect fit here. Have you seen her play? This kid is awesome.
Just because she doesn't come from North Carolina doesn't mean she's not deserving a look.
She has been in the U-Teams for a while now.

Its fine to put these new players into games against weak teams, but when time comes to play against sweden, germany, france, and even canada, there will be problems. I'm cool with new people playing, but I hope he does not get too comfortable. Its gonna be interesting to see U.S. play without our 2 best playmakers (tobinheath/meganrapinoe)

    My line
Ive seen her play in several U20 games and also in the NCAA tournament. I wasnt surprised she got a call, just where and when. WHEN Im surprise Sermanni brought her in sight unseen for a one day camp. Ud think he'd want to look at her in practice for a week before deciding to cap her or not. WHERE Every time Ive seen her she's played inside. Now I know Sermanni doesnt play his wings out wide so maybe he is looking at it from that perspective, but when I think of a replacement for Rapinoe I dont think of someone who plays CAM for her school and play maker for her country. I have no problem with her getting a shot. She is a solid linking player, has a good work rate and a cannon for a leg. It just seems an odd spot to try her. I even checked the schedule to see if Illinois is in the DC area but they r home this weekend.

She was CM for the WC team. She and Morgan Brian shared it in a fashion similar to the time when Boxx and Lloyd first shared it under Pia...free to roam and switch who stays back a bit.

Rapinoe is also free to roam but she an attacking player...DiBernardo didnt have much of an attacking role on the U20 and Brian was always top of the triangle

As Boston Red mentioned elsewhere, DiBernardo is from Italian lineage. Perhaps the US is capping her so early because they r concerned she might play for Italy. I would think DiBernardo is definitely in the plans down the road for US if not necessarily in this cycle.

I dont see it either. She's not really a DM, despite her height she doesnt do much in the air, she by no means has international speed and the only two tackles I recall her making caused Kessler (Germany) and Ji So-Yean (South Korea) to be helped off the field and had to be subbed out. She does do a mean free kick.

i agree with the above about Yael..... her free kick is world class but other than that...

You guys/ girls are right about Averbuch except one thing.
As slow as she is, she is still the best DM we have out there. One who has the mentality to play defense which none of our other Mids want to do.
