Yup. Pros: Andres Cantor, no score spoilers, nice introduction montage giving you the feel of the atmospheres. Cons: Crappy SD signal, no real commentators with Premiership knowledge. (You would think they could hire someone who played in England who speaks spanish).
NBC Sports Group's Premier League Debut Notes & Quotes - Part #1 - http://nbcsportsgrouppressbox.com/2013/08/17/nbc-sports-groups-premier-league-debut-notes-quotes/ NBC Sports Group's Premier League Debut Notes & Quotes - Part #2 - http://nbcsportsgrouppressbox.com/2013/08/17/nbcs-premier-league-debut-notes-quotes-part-ii/ Spoiler Alert: Don't read if you haven't yet watch the matches that were on NBCSN and NBC yesterday.
My only complaint was that after watching norwich-everton live on my ipad, I tried to watch it on my tv through comcast on demand but the feed was like 15 minutes behind so instead of 2nd half I got end of first half. But I guess that was comcast problem not NBCSN.
This was one of my two "things to work on" with NBC. I'm with U-Verse and would have to watch NBCSN until 10am on the nose, then flip to the extra channel to watch the other game. Those other games should start a few minutes earlier, as you suggested. I was also expecting the extra channels to synch up with NBCSN for halftime coverage...they didn't. I'm ok with that. With these extra channels, I was kind of hoping that the NBCSN channel would be simulcast with the "extra" channels to make for easier channel surfing. Overflow channel 1 - NBCSN Overflow channel 2 - Extra game 1 Overflow channel 3 - Extra game 2 ...and so on and so forth. I didn't try any of the mobile devices, but it sounds like they've set most viewers up with a "home pub" situation where you could have all your devices going with different games and let your eyes wander between games.
Yeah, me neither. I really don't understand why people hated on FSC. I don't care how much better people think talking head 1 is than talking head 2. I could watch every game I wanted to see (I don't care if they're live, since I never watch them live anyway). Sure FSC was not perfect, but it's better than this weekend where I could only see 1 of the 3 games that I really wanted to see. NBC/Comcast had plenty of run-up time to get the overflow channels and streaming app available to everyone, and they failed there. They had no problem getting the Olympic overflow channels out on time. And then they choose to replay the Man United game on NBCSN rather than showing a game that was on the overflow channels... great job there guys.
The problem with showing popular leagues on tape delay is avoiding the result until its shown. Maybe for Russian football or Copa Sudamericana its not a big issue, but Premier League games must be shown live. Just like CL. FSC did a solid job, but this is definitely a huge upgrade. I'vebeen impressed.
Looks like I'm switching to Direct TV. It's a complete embarrassment the way Dish is handling this. There was a long thread on their forums regarding complaints about no extra time and when/will they fix the issue. Apparently Dish cares so much about solving this problem they just deleted the entire thread and are attempting to sweep the complaints under the rug. No extra time, no real reason given, no timetable for a solution and now censoring the complaints. I'm pissed. But Direct TV should be cheaper and a better product. Any advice on which package to get? What's the package most of you have with Direct TV that you're happy with?
I think he's spurious but not a bother since i don't care much for any pre/post game nonsense. Overall, fantastic opening day on NBC.
An interesting interview with NBC sports president of programming.. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/...cts-on-the-networks-Premier-League-debut.html
NBC Sports Group Debuts Opening Weekend Of Premier League - Ratings, Notes & Quotes - http://nbcsportsgrouppressbox.com/2...ekend-of-premier-league-ratings-notes-quotes/
No idea why the can't show replays on the Extra Time channels, which just sit dormant with "No Premier League game at this time" messages on them the other 166 hours of the week.
Someone else here might know the logistics better, but the Extra Time channels might have time/bandwith restrictions placed on them by the cable/sat providers? Meaning it would cost NBC more to use those channels outside of Saturday morning.
Bingo. It uses almost no bandwidth to have the info screen (it's called a barker) on for those 166 hours. That bandwidth gets distributed to other part time channels like pay per view or subscription sports packages like mlb extra innings and MLS direct kick.
Social TV Activity Chart: August 18, 2013 NBCSN's early game coverage of the English Premiere League dominates Sunday's social TV activity with well over 621,000 social messages. An additional 3433,000 social posts were collected for the second game of the EPL coverage. The soccer game was also a launching pad for the rebranding of the network from NBC Sports Network to NBCSN. This is the fourth branding for the network in the past decade, as it was the Outdoor Life Channel, before switching to Versus, after a Comcast acquisition. When NBCU cam aboard the conglomerate, Versus became NBC SPORTS NETWORK. Cable was the preferred social hangout for TV fans. Five programs grabbed activity over 100k, while the top broadcast program (BIG BROTHER) could only Manage just under 80,000.
Perspective? Messages per??? Location of messages? What platforms? What did a message have to contain to be considered sourced from NBCSN as opposed to overseas, or off of another broadcast platform? Thx, Jay!
Can someone please answer these questions. One, which do you consider better as a soccer fan, Comcast or Direct TV? Two, which packages would you recommend? Three, does one of Comcast/Direct TV or both have all the extra time games on demand to stream during the week for the games you missed live? From what I've read here, Comcast is archiving all games but customers aren't confident that will continue. And it appears Direct TV does archive all extra time games and that will continue? Thank you. I'm switching providers and looking for some insight.
Directv is by far the better choice. BEIN, FS1, FS2 AND NBCSN are all in thr base package, forget what the new one is called as I'm grandfathered into an old package. Just don't get the cheap entertainment package that doesn't have the basic sport networks. Directv also has exclusive access to the Champions League and Europa League games not picked up by Fox, for free. All the extra time channels are live and in hd. Don't think they're on demand but I haven't looked. Shouldn't make much difference as all new customers are offered the Genie Dvr which allows you to record 5 things at once
On DirecTV there's no On Demand equivalent of the ET channels. There's no games listed on NBCSN as of two minutes ago. Thx, Jay!
Yeah I didn't think so, luckily I have the Genie and then another HD-DVR so I can watch one game and record 6 others. If you don't have a Genie, call in to Directv, tell them you're going to cancel, they'll transfer you to the retention department, then just ask for a Genie for free and they'll give it to you, might have to extend your contract a year but well worth it.
