The team is pretty solid as constructed. Sucks that Cahill is out and you'd love to have another outstanding CM in your pocket, but in MLS that's pretty impossible. We have pretty good depth across the board now. A good mix of veteran leadership/outstanding talent at a few positions, quality MLS grind it out talent in their primes in a few more, and a good core of young promising players. That's good balance. In terms of our next DP I imagine Henry will play one more season. Maybe they'll spend big on a striker to replace him either this off season or next?
I don't know what is the allergy against Central and South America that RBNY have, but over there are the big deals, all this Countries are in economic problem and the team have not money even to pay regulary the salary of they player and they want to emigrate, so go get them and don't keep doing the fool with those extra time living European....
http://www.newyorkredbulls.com/news/2013/08/red-bulls-sign-australian-international-david-carney Plays LB or LM. Can't say I know much about him, but good to have some cover on the left.
Then again, the man plays defense--no one expects him to work sweetness with his feet. The fact that he has been able to score is a nice bonus as long as he is a bulldog defender.
Something that has been sorely missing since Miller occupies that spot. You know a defender that can actually defend.
An Australian who started his career at Everton? Can't possibly imagine where the idea for this signing came from Don't know a damn thing about the guy, but he plays positions of need. Have to figure he's a better LB option than Kimura at least... I'd say that Steele could use some rest every now and again, but with his stamina I'm not entirely convinced that's true...
Covers for loss of Pearce and Kimura (possibly out for season). Spot starts for Steele (if needed) or Miller (if he melts down again). Obviously a good technical base having gone through the Everton academy. Ties to Cahill. International experience. My only concern is that he hasn't played too much in the past 3-4 years. He's still only 29 though with success at Sydney FC and of course nearly 50 international caps. Also, I don't see any injury history so that's good. Decent depth signing I guess...depending on what we're paying him...
What? I don't recall that. Not only would the Asian football world gone in shock but the whole football world.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bunyodkor_PFK They definitely pursued him but I can't find anything about his potential wages, I might be confusing them with his monstrous salary in Russia.
I'm sure they had some rich guy backing them and were trying to emulate the Russian clubs and Shiktar Donetsk, but I've never heard of them. Maybe the fact that it didn't work is part of the reason a high priced foreigner might have a falling out.
Yes, that is correct: Bunyodkor did make a ridiculous offer to Eto'o. He never took them seriously, though. They did sign former Brazilian international Rivaldo at one point and despite his age at the time, that was still some coup.
If Carney can find some stability in New York then I think he'll turn out to be a decent acquisition for you guys. He was good enough to make a number of appearances for Blackpool in the EPL before sustaining a shoulder injury which has played havoc on him ever since. A lot of supporters in Australia, including myself, can't fathom why he left FC Twente... could've been a different story for him. He has the ability, the experience and should find life comfortable in NY around guys like Cahill. It all depends on his shoulder.
You do realize that Bunyodkor is one of the biggest clubs in West Asia, with Rivaldo playing there and Scolari coaching. Not to mention this gem of a stadium they just opened.
