Ok, this is embarassing. But I kinda expected it, as I said earlier. This is going to be one very, very long season.
OMG changes need to be made quickly because Bremen will win no games this season with play like that... unforgiveable. Lazy, slow, no concentration, poor judgement, un-inspired...the list goes on and on. They have learned NOTHING! I hope BMG loses in extra time so Werder aren't the only headline tomorrow.
Same problem as last year. If we're going to play a 4-3-3 like system (today looked like 4-2-3-1) then we need real wingers. We only had two last year, Elia and Arnautovic. Fuellkrug filled in as a third until he got injured, but it was so bad we played Petersen out there. Now we still only have Elia, Arnautovic, and Fuellkrug. If Arnautovic is on the way out, that leaves us with only two. We need to bring in some wingers because right now our squad still seems to be built for a diamond.
What to expect, if the club is led by a social democrat. These iditos already destroyed the city of Bremen, no they destroy Werder.
This is particularly awful because we really (really) could have used the extra funds generated by the Pokal matches. I'm still willing to give Dutt time with the team, as he just had a pre-season so far. But this is anything but a good start. Optimism is fading by the minute.
That post was a bit too political. But it is unbelievable how a club of Werders size, 2nd in all-time BL table (though HSV will catch us if we continue playing like this) and with top 5 regards number of sympathisers among Germany is managed that bad. Funds are not generated well, processes do not seem efficient and the mood within the club is not good. The board of supervisory lacks business competence. And the men responsible for it are K-D Fischer and Willi Lemke. In Bremen there is a saying: "The fish smells at its head". And that is the supervisory board.
Its all good Pops, I understand...Saarland is CDU. One of life's troublesome ironies. The last election in Canada was a resounding Conservative (CDU) victory and a near sweep (51- 3 seats!) in my own province. Unfortunately the "Werder rule" does not apply across the big pond and my football/hockey teams cannot buy a victory either ... ...woe a friend to Winni.
I don't think it was too political EE, I've had similar thoughts regarding Lemke ever since the latest upgrade to the Weserstadion - it seemed we were wasting copious amounts of money on "making the stadium green" at the expense of reinvesting funds from the transfers of star players back into the matchday squad. The worldview of the board of directors is fair-game - not in terms of their judgement as individuals (as people) but in terms of their ability to successfully run a football club - as it is their weltanschauung that guides their actions. No malice, but they make their choices for a reason - and they're making poor choices.
that goal we conceded for 3-1 was beyond belief. Werder-style defense we are all accustomed to, but that one surely was something to behold in professional levels!
It's not the political views of the board, it's their age. Our club management used to be our advantage, let us not forget what Willi Lemke and others have done for our club, those decades of success despite our structural disadvantages compared to the competition. But nowadays, it's simply not able to cope with the challenges of modern football, it's not flexible and 'fast' enough thinking wise. Plus, their 'Hanseatic' reluctance to spend may have saved the club from the fate of Dortmund and Schalke who (almost) went bankrupt, but they've often overdone it and it backfired terribly. Not to mention that once we did spend, we wasted the money on awful transfers, inflated wages and other stuff that could have been avoided. The club has to modernise on every level, starting with our board. We have to completely rethink our strategy, put our focus on youth development and work on improving the integration of talented youngsters into the first team (one could despair considering how many Werder youth products flourished elsewhere). We need more professional managers on the youth level also, a better, more professional medical department. Everything should be questioned, no exceptions.
