This is risky for Kyle. If he goes and plays, he could lock down a spot on the WC roster. If he goes and sits.... Conversely, if he stays he could lose out on a numbers crunch to guys playing in Europe. There's also the money.
I don't trust a random twitter handle with info I haven't seen corroborated elsewhere. If Beckerman does indeed move abroad, good for him, but at this point I think he's an MLS lifer.
So last night in Mexico, Tijuana beat Pachuca 1-0. American Greg Garza played the entire game at left back, his second straight start. He's not gonna be a star but he's a scrappy little dude. Not the fastest and the most most technical but he plays hard and smart. Sort of a left-footed Parkhurst (but more physical). I could see him being part of a Gold Cup roster in the future IF he keeps playing regularly. Of course, Tijuana's starting LB last year was Edgar Castillo. He and Joe Corona entered the game in the 67th minute to preserve the lead, with both playing in MF. Castillo was his normal active self and did a lot to maintain possession. I wonder if TJ's new coach will use him more at left mid and if so, if that mean's Garza will start. (I thought Castillo was much more effective for the US when he played as a MF than as a LB.) Corona did a lot of grunt work winning loose balls and playing defense. 18-year old American Paul Arriola was an unused sub. Elsewhere in Liga MX last night, Las Vegas-born, Mexico-raised Ricardo Bocanegra played the final 26 minutes for Atlas in their 1-1 draw with Atlante. I didn't see the game but Bocanegra was on the field when Atlante scored the tying goal late. No clue if he was part of the play at all.
Kyle doesn't need the money now because... he's got a future as a hip-hop artist. http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/ae3520fc56/we-re-better-than-the-best-by-the-mls-all-stars#
Oh....wow. Wondo was just brutal, and Magee's line, "I act like a champ, and you act like a bitch" That was classic.
Even with it supposed to be corny and hokey, Wonolowski was still still pretty bad. The others seemed to be in on the joke but Wondo just seemed like he was trying to rap and couldn't actually do it. Either way, brilliantly hilarious.
Paul Arriola is certainly the YA new pus$y flavor of the week after he had his second sweet assist in as many games for TJ last night. Video of Paul's assist is at 55 seconds of this link.
That would be an interesting move. I think Boyd would do really well in the Championship with his style of play but at the same time not sure England is the place he needs to be to improve upon his weaknesses (first touch, etc.). With that said Watford is a legitimate contender for promotion with a solid coach (Zola) and the monetary backing (owners also own Udinese and Granada) to survive in the EPL if they get there. So this could prove to be a fruitful move in the near term for Boyd (similar to D Williams move to Reading) if it goes through.
That was a sweet move to shake the defender and an excellent cross. An 18 year old American kid making the match day squads in the Mexican League is very impressive, and on top of that, he's making the most of his minutes. He is definitely my Yank Abroad flavor of the week right now.
Brian Sciaretta @BrianSciaretta24mReport: Bobby Wood called up to the #usmnt for the Bosnia friendly on August 14: http://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/186
Didn't see it mentioned. Lichaj went 90 last week for Forest's 1-0 victory. He received a WS rating 7.8, third highest of all players. AJ received a rating of 7.7 in his team's 2-4 loss good for 2nd best of all players.
Lichaj with another strong game today... Can someone explain to me why JK seems to not rate this kid at all? It's embarrassing for Jurgen to bring a hack like Brad Evans over for the Bosnia game when he has a much better backup fullback option in Lichaj already in Europe.
