If you are addressing people posting their logos, then fine, I agree. But considering how many rebrands have taken place after ownership changes, I fail to see how discussing the potential of a brand change isn't a relevant subtopic to this news. Especially considering how provocative the Crew logo is.
The new owner mentioned the crest (badge) in his first press conference http://sports.yahoo.com/news/columbus-crew-owners-precourt-sports-145439781--mls.html “We’re going to leave no stone unturned," he said. "I love the name. I love the colors. The badge ... we might have to take a look at the badge.”
Fair enough, but hopefully if people start posting fan art of their own suggestions for a new crest - I hope the mods bin them. If the team releases potential designs, bring 'em on.
I acknowledge that the Crew's badge is polarizing, but I come down on the side that likes it. It's goofy as hell and nowhere near the same class as Chicago (by far the best in the league) but it's original and distinctive, unchanged since the formation of the league and doesn't contain a goddamned telstar ball. Here's one vote for leaving that as-is.
That would definitely pay homage to the huge role sailing ships and shipping have played in the history of Columbus, Ohio...
(I'm almost afraid to ask this) I thought I read/heard somewhere back in the day that one of the figures is actually suppose to be a woman (the one on the left?). And add me to the list of people happy the new owner is keeping the colors and name.
As a neutral, I always thought "Crew" was one of the better names.Like the Mutiny, it was non-traditional but didn't sound as idiotic as, say, my local team, the Clash. Back in '96, I thought the worst names were Clash, Burn, Wiz, and Galaxy. Looks like the league agreed with three out of four. Of course, it didn't help that their logo was an angry radioactive earthworm wearing a balaclava: If the Galaxy can go from a silly 90s neologism to a respected global brand, the Crew certainly can.
Am I the only person surprised that the Crew don't have blue collars to play up to the whole, "Hardest working team in America" ideal?
the ships would be in honor of Christopher Columbus the namesake of your great city. Don't you have a baseball team called the Clippers.
I think you would have more international respect if you make the name more traditional. Crewe Columbus FC would harken to Crewe Alexandra. Much like the Sporting KC rebrand. Then again that is a stupid idea, I hate Euro poseur. Keep the name
I'm not from Ohio but yeah, I've heard of this Columbus dude and am familiar with his ships. I don't think he's exactly a big part of the city's identity or sense of itself, though. And clipper ships are ~350-400 years off from Columbus's time...the Columbus Caravels, maybe, but not the Clippers.
Crewe Alexandra are a world famous brand. Dario Gradi is a genius. In fact he should be the next Crewe manager.
Why would the Hunts sell now at a loss, as some seem to think, when franchise values are increasing every year? Why not just hold on to the team longer and wait it out until you get an offer where you make money on the deal? Makes me think maybe they really didnt take a loss at the 68 million number.
Well, going by Twitter, Mr. Precourt seems like he has the makings of one of those owners who's also a fan a la Heineman or Paulson. He was tweeting all throughout the game, celebrating the goals and stuff. That's a good sign, IMO.
when people sell their stocks, from the nyse, they always show where they lose, so they dont have to pay capital gains tax. HSG made plenty of money, but Dallas is a better market for HSG. HSG will stick withthe hoops.
