I'm driving up Tuesday morning. This will be my fourth trip and each time, I have arrived on the day of the game. I've missed some of the pre-game action, but it reduces hotel and time away from work costs. Now that I'm an independent contractor getting paid by the hour, those are important things to consider.
I may have to resurrect the lucky sugar cookies as my tailgate contribution. My daughter most def wants the tailgate option. My husband - bleah. I think we'll have him drop us off early and he can go find a Civil War battlefield or something.
I completely agree, I am going to go to the 4th Street Bar the night before for sure bit I have never been a huge fan of the day of thing being in one. I know in the past due to circumstance that the AO tailgate has been turn into a bar thing but for the most part I enjoy a true tailgate much more. This is something that Hamburgler03 and I have expressed concern about to the local supporters group leaders, but they seem intent on moving forward with the match day bar event. Therefore, he and I plan on organizing a large scale BYOB tailgate in the stadium parking lot on game day. We also believe that many supporters will prefer to skip the bar on game day all together in favor of tailgating, so we hope to welcome them with this other option.[/quote]
BTW, I don't want this to be a "pissing match" against the guys organizing the events at 4th Street. US Soccer and The Crew are pretty much jerking them around against any specific AO tailgate. I am certain that it will be a great time at 4th Street (and I will be there on the night before the game). Day of game though, I like to be in the parking lot......all....day....long. So as RoleModel83 said, we will be organizing a large open tailgate and invite any one to attend and/or join.
Technically, I don't think they are ever closed. I plan on being at the stadium by noon at the latest.
So we find out tomorrow, August 2nd if we got tickets or not. I'm driving up from Charlotte, NC the morning of the game whether I get tickets in the lottery or not. Will most likely check into hotel and then go tailgate. Already have a room booked and will buy tickets in the parking lot and sit next to Mexico fans if I have to.
Generally speaking as long as you are mostly behaving yourself, nobody seems to mind about alcohol. Technically speaking this is on the state fairgrounds and open container laws would prevail yadda yadda yadda. I will say that some Crew tailgates have had a keg or two.
Fortunately for the people of Columbus, I don't think anything terribly exciting has ever happened there. They seem to have a knack for avoiding the curse of "May you live in interesting times". Now that I think about it, having grown up in Ohio and taking Ohio History class in the 8th grade, I would have to say that is true for the entire state.
Well there was the infamous Battle of Toledo between Ohio and Michigan. Ohio lost and had to keep Toledo.
I don't remember reading about that in Ohio History class. As I learned on Star Trek "The winners of the war get to write the history books".
Who sang ... "Saturday night in Toledo, Ohio, is like being nowhere at all All through the day how the hours rush by You sit in the park and you watch the grass die" On a completely different note ... I'm torn between the 4th street bar party and the gracious tailgate offer. Must ... find ... way ... to ... do .... both.
Where exactly do you expect the tailgate to take place, I am planning on arriving in Columbus on Monday morning from Toronto, which means I will not be able to bring a grill, will people have some that I can use to cook?
When we get a little closer, we'll post a map of where we will be setting up along with what kind of tailgate tents and flags to look for (I'll be flying a betsy ross flag with DTOM flag under). We will be bringing grills.
So I was checking the AO website today and I noticed in the Members Only section this was posted... A few more tickets have become available! $77 per tix in the supporters section, corner section. Didn't see any tweet or email about this but if any of you AO members how didn't get in the first go round check it out.
Anyone know what time the gates open and if there will be a large line of people waiting to rush to the front of the AO area?
